Nicholson - In Loving Memory of Floyd E. Nicholson, age 82, of Macclenny, Florida passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, at the Morris Care Center in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born in North Carolina on June 8, 1943, and moved to Baker County as a young adult. He lived a life defined by love, hard work, loyalty, and simple joys. Floyd was a skilled carpenter by trade and spent many years contributing to the building of local homes and businesses throughout the community. His hands helped shape the very place he called home, and his work stands as a quiet reminder of his dedication, talent, and strong work ethic. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: a good game of pool, classic westerns on television, dirt track races, watching Florida Gator football, and especially a spirited game of “Go Fish” with his grandson. Those small, ordinary moments were the ones he treasured most. His little lap companion, Dixie, also brought him comfort and constant companionship. Floyd built lasting friendships wherever he went. The team at Waffle House became like extended family to him — they knew his order before he even had to say a word. Walking through those doors always felt like coming home. It was there that he formed a special bond with Buck Koon. What started as sharing a table turned into a friendship that resembled brotherhood — inseparable, full of laughter, stories, and a deep, genuine love for one another. Floyd’s greatest pride was his family. He never missed an opportunity to show up and support his grandchildren in whatever they were doing — whether it was football, dance, graduation, or any special moment in their lives. Being present meant everything to him. Floyd will be remembered as a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and found joy in the people around him. His steady presence, warm heart, and unwavering support for his family will be missed more than words can express. Though he is no longer with us, the love he gave and the life he built will continue on in all who knew him. Forever loved and dearly missed. Floyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katherine Nicholson, whom he loved deeply and faithfully.

Floyd leaves behind his devoted daughter, Karen (Stanley) Posey; his granddaughter, Amanda (Tom) Rewis; and his precious great-grandchildren, Chelsey Barber and Cade Rewis.

A Celebration of Floyd’s Life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 1:00 pm at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services Chapel. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care and direction of V. TODD FERREIRA FUNERAL SERVICES, 250 North Lowder Street, Macclenny, FL 32063 (904)259-5700. Visit www.ferreirafuneralservices.com to sign the family’s guest book.

Carl Charles Norman Jr. departed this life for a better one surrounded by his family on Monday evening, February 16th at Baptist Hospital. Carl was born in Jacksonville, Florida on March 11, 1939 to Carl Charles Norman Sr. and Inez Augustine Norman. Carl, like so many of his generation, grew up in a home full of extended family with his parents, his beloved sister, June, as well as his grandmother Norman, aunts, and cousins. They adored him, and his family called him, “Brother.” It was there Carl learned the value of caring for your family, loving the Lord, and hard work.

Carl grew up on Lem Turner Road where he attended Norwood Elementary School, Epperson United Methodist Church, and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School class of 1957. He played football, took vocational classes to be an electrician and met the love of his life, Sara Ellen Sutton. They married ten days after graduation and were married for 67 years.

Carl was working for Milligan Electric making seventy-five cents an hour, but when he married, Bob Milligan raised his pay to $1.25 an hour. Carl, with his father and friends, built a home for he and Sara next door to his parents. In August of 1958, Kelley arrived and the family of three moved into their new home. Todd arrived in 1961 and Robert followed in 1964. Carl added on to the house while working for Food Fair, later Pantry Pride, before taking his journeyman electrical skills to Paxon Electric. At Paxon Electric, Carl excelled at trouble shooting and fixing the problem. In later years, he liked to call himself a “Doctor of Electricity”. In 1976 Carl left Paxon Electric and successfully started his own electrical contracting business with his many contacts, and incredible work ethic. He retired in 2004.

He always provided for and took care of his family and extended family. No matter how hard he worked, in the summer he and Sara would load up the kids in their camper traveling the USA with family and friends. Carl liked nothing better than to get all the kids together for badminton or swimming or trial hikes which always ended in a sweet treat for everyone. He would be at the front of the line getting his snow-cone and then go the end where he would pay the bill and order his second snow-cone for the walk back. He was a big kid and most vacations weren’t complete without a stop at Six Flags Over Georgia where we rode the log flume until we were all soaking wet.

In 1972, Carl and Sara decided to move to the country and with the help of his National Guard buddy, Harry Bowen, they chose Baker County as their home. They literally picked up and moved their home to Macclenny settling on seven acres. The first Sunday in Macclenny the family attended the Methodist church and at the end of the service joined. Carl and Sara made themselves at home. Carl joined Dawkins Lodge and served as Worshipful Master twice. He was active in the Rainbow Girl chapter earning a Grand Cross for Service. He was a member of the Baker County Shrine Club and served as president as well as having a funny car in parades. Carl coached and sponsored the little league football team the Packers with his son, Robert. He loved it. Through the church and these organizations, they made lifelong friends whom they camped and traveled around the country as well as cruises to Hawaii and Alaska. Carl and Sara were also active in the Andrew Jackson Class of ’57 class reunions, monthly lunches, and a smaller group called the “Fun Bunch” who traveled and enjoyed spending time together.
In 1985, their first grandchild, Sara Beth, was born followed by Ashton, Dylan, Savannah, Spencer, and Jamie Lee. Papa was devoted to his “pootheads” and attended every school program, play, and ball game he could with Granny. He would proudly yell, “Papa’s girl” or “Papa’s man.” They delighted in taking grandchildren camping and on vacations to the mountains. On his golf cart he liked to tell the neighbors he was “the sheriff of the lane” and to his grandchildren, “What was said on the golf cart, stayed on the golf cart.” The great grandchildren: Berkley, Garson, Charlee, Bryce, Brinkley, Sutton, Forrest, Moses, and Joe were a joy to him. Carl was happy to celebrate holidays at their home with everyone gathered around the table.

The last few years of his life he and Sara had health issues, but remained devoted to one another, family, and friends. He took care of his beloved Sara until she passed in 2024. Carl is survived by his three children Kelley Norman (Bob Gerard), Todd Norman (Debbie), and Robert Norman (Tammy). He leaves behind grandchildren Sara (Marcus Godbold), Ashton (Mathew Griffin), Dylan Gerard (Jenny), Savannah (Brian Dunbar), Spencer Norman-Gerard (Monique) and Jamie Lee (Trevor Bloxham). He had 9 great grandchildren. They are his legacy. He is also survived by his sister, June Alderman of Edgewater, Florida and his nieces, Carla Cottrell (Peter) and Nancy Nelson (Bill).

A celebration of Carl’s life will be held on Friday, February 20th at 11:30 am with visitation an hour prior to the service at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services on 250 Lowder Street Macclenny. The service will be conducted by Reverend Sam Kitching of the Macclenny Church of Christ and Pastor Tim Thomas of CFT. Carl will be laid to rest at 2:00 pm in the historic Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. This tribute was lovingly prepared by Mr. Carl Charles Norman’s family. His arrangements are under the care and direction of V. TODD FERREIRA FUNERAL SERVICES, 250 North Lowder Street, Macclenny, FL 32063 (904) 259-5700.
