I will never forget his case. He was in the recovery room after having orthopedic surgery in a hospital, and he had a medical emergency that resulted in him having immediate surgery to keep him from having his leg amputated. His second surgery involved creating an open wound which took many months to fully heal. We were seeing him for his orthopedic needs but I was amazed by his wound healing. Had this occurred even 20 years ago, infection would have set in and he likely would have had an amputation. Thankfully, he had a full recovery from his orthopedic injury, as well as a full recovery from his other issue and the open wound. It serves as a reminder to me that we are fortunate to have healthcare advancements, and we can only wonder what further advancements will solve problems in 20 years that seem impossible today.

October is Physical Therapy Month! We asked Erica Cutspec, DPT why she came a PT. Her response:

"When I was a freshman in high school, I suffered a high ankle sprain and landed in physical therapy. I really enjoyed my experience and decided to interview my PT for a project I was working on in class that year. I remember asking my therapist questions about his profession, and he genuinely seemed to enjoy what he did every day. When my junior year came around and I began to think about what I wanted to do after high school, it was my dad who suggested, “Why don’t you look at PT?” I ended up applying to just two schools, visiting Ithaca College, and making the easy decision of majoring in Physical Therapy. I didn’t know back then how rewarding or challenging of a profession it would be, but I’m still thankful for that ankle sprain and my dad’s suggestion."

Patient Spotlight of the Week!!!!
I have to highlight a very hard-working, motivated, and committed young lady. CF tore her ACL during a soccer game and required an ACL reconstruction to get her back on her feet. Her number one goal is getting back onto the Soccer field. She is so committed and motivated, that this 14-year-old girl gets up at 5:30 in the morning to make sure she gets her exercises in prior to school. She is 2-3 months out of surgery and absolutely crushing it! She fully understands that no one will “fix her” and she has to fix herself, by hard work and her Physical Therapy. How often does a teenager get up 30 minutes early to do her exercises so she gets to the field sooner? She is the reason she is crushing it! She is such a motivation to others!

Great feedback from a Senior Fitness class member who took advantage of our personal training services! Thanks for letting us know! :).

""The Silver Sneaker class at village fitness is led by John. After attending for a few months, I decided to do some personal training sessions with him. My goals were weight loss, improved strength and better balance. John has been a GREAT ENCOURAGER and has shown me that age is not a barrier to fitness. I am almost at my weight loss goal, but more importantly, I have maintained my lean muscle, am much stronger, and have better balance And I'm having FUN! RH

I’ll never forget the first time I met this gentleman. He walked into the clinic as his kids were in preschool across the street. He was referred by a U of R MD to go to the PT practice at Strong. He gave me a brief history of his issue, and I told him I was confident I could help him with it. He decided to start with us instead of Strong due to convenience. He did great with his rehab and was so appreciative of being able to stay close to home. I further gained his trust, and I treated him for practically every body part over the next 19 years. He also referred his wife and kids to me as well. He set the record for the most number of “cases” and I am happy to say I do not think I treated him for the same condition twice. I am thrilled to say, that after 19 years, when we run into each other at ns, it is like 2 longtime friends seeing each other again.

Wow! Such great feedback from a personal training client here at Village Fitness! If you need more confidence and motivation, John can help you! Thanks, SJ for the feedback!

“I started training with John a few months ago. Before this adventure I couldn't lose fat nor was I progressing with strength working out at home. I was becoming frustrated and really needed help. When I began working with John, my confidence was really lacking. He was always very positive and motivating. I learned how to eat better and how to properly exercise all parts of the body to increase strength and slim down fat. My confidence since has greatly increased. I feel great and I am very glad I chose this path! I highly recommend John's personal training services!”

It’s hard to believe that I met him in 2007. He first came to us with a low back issue that he responded very well to treatment for and made a full recovery. A few years later, he came back to us with a shoulder issue, and after that I also treated his wife. After other various injuries over the past 14 years, he returned in 2021 with a very severe injury - one I do not normally treat. I agreed to see him for a consult and to see if it was something I could handle. During the examination, he and his wife made it clear that they wanted me try to help him because they trusted me. I knew this was something I could help him with, even though it was outside of my “normal” and I am so glad that I did. Over time and with PT I watched him take his first steps in over a year; the emotion involved with helping someone with this feat are indescribable. I was so thankful that they came to me, as it really was my honor to help him. He went from not walking, to walking on his own, to doing daily activities independently. It reminded me this was one of the many reasons that I became a Physical Therapist!

Our Personal Trainer John received a wonderful compliment from a long-time training client, so we had to share! If anyone is needing an extra push or personal training, please contact us!

“Just a short note to thank you for all you do for me and for your other clients. I have worked with many trainers over the years at Village Fitness. You measure up to the highest standards of excellence --- you are more than competent, caring and professional, you are simply the best! Sincerely, RB 🏋️‍♀️”

This person has been such a motivation to me and others. If you have the chance to meet him, he will, most likely, change your life. He had a catastrophic injury that left him with lifelong impairments. I did not meet him until the injury was well behind him, but he was having other health issues. I was astounded by his positive attitude about life, and his ability to move forward. He taught me a lesson I have told many of my patients and continue to tell to this day. If you do not trip and fall (figuratively) time to time, you are not pushing yourself enough. A lot of people who have had his challenges would never have achieved what he had, but since he has pushed himself, he has been able to enjoy some aspects of life many thought were impossible. He has changed so many people’s life with his positive thinking. I’ve used what he taught me and I try to pay it forward as I help others.
