🚨 Garfield and Northport Dr 🚨

Downed sparking power lines have caused a grass fire in the area.

Stay clear of any downed wires, always assume they are live. Keep a safe distance and call 911 to report it.

Well done and congratulations to the Dearborn Heights Firefighters, for the first time in a decade, the department is fully staffed.

Serving a community of approximately 60,033 residents, the department consistently handles a call volume of over 9,000 fire and EMS incidents each year. With a roster now at 59 firefighters and one administrative staff member, this milestone reflects a significant step toward strengthening service delivery and public safety.

“Proper staffing should reduce overtime and lessen the physical and mental strain on our firefighters,” Phil Hall said, Dearborn Heights deputy fire chief.

A fully staffed department isn’t just a number, it’s faster response times, better coverage, and improved safety for both residents and firefighters.

The Macomb Township Fire Department serves a population of 100,000 residents across 36 square miles, operating out of 4 fire stations with 36 full-time firefighters.

For the first time in more than a decade, the Dearborn Heights Fire Department is fully staffed, a milestone that could reduce overtime and improve service for residents.

Around 1:30 AM, your Macomb Township Firefighters were dispatched to the 50000 block of Cheltenham Dr for an odor investigation following a lightning strike to a residential home.

Upon arrival and investigation, crews discovered fire in the attic extending through the roof and upgraded the incident to a working structure fire. One firefighter sustained a leg injury and was transported to a local hospital.

While crews were still operating on that scene, at approximately 2:45 AM, a commercial fire alarm was dispatched. Shortly after, it was confirmed that another residential home on the 16000 block of Driftwood Dr had also been struck by lightning.

Residents reported lightning entered through the roof, causing significant damage and debris inside the home. Firefighters located fire within the walls and again upgraded the incident to a working structure fire.

Both fires were brought under control and fully extinguished. There were no injuries reported to any residents.

Mutual aid from surrounding departments was utilized at both incidents.

We would like to thank Shelby Township Firefighters IAFF Local 1338, Selfridge Air National Guard Firefighters, Clinton Township Firefighters, and Washington Township Professional Firefighters Local 3299 for stepping away from their own communities to assist Macomb Township when resources were stretched.
