For many kids, strep tests are scary. Not for this brave girl! She chooses to lie down for her strep test, and she and nurse Shannon demonstrate just how easy it can be!

We remind you that strep tests should be done very selectively. Not everyone with a sore throat needs to be tested for strep. Kids that develop a runny nose and cough at the same time as they get a sore throat, usually have a virus instead of strep. Many people carry strep in their noses and throats (without being sick), and testing these kids leads to inappropriate antibiotic use (since their tests are “positive” at those times, just from carrying it).
