Julie Humes is a flight nurse with Air Evac Lifeteam Base 144, which is based in Macomb. She has been named one of the American Ambulance Association’s Stars of Life, one of 32 EMS professionals nationwide honored this year.

Wow! We love our community!

Our first ever Standing Together Against Breast Cancer event was AMAZING! It was lovely to meet so many lovely people and hear some inspiring stories.

It was nice to see some familiar faces from our sister bases that were able to fly in, Air Evac Lifeteam 5 - Quincy, IL and Air Evac 59 - Fort Madison IA!

🌟 Air Evac Lifeteam 144 – Stars of Life Recognition 🌟

Julie Humes joined Air Evac Lifeteam in 2020 with a mission close to her heart:

“I want to treat every family just like my own. My goal is to bring comfort to the patient, their loved ones, and our emergency medicine partners—knowing I can safely and effectively get them to a higher level of care on what is likely one of the worst days of their lives.”

At Air Evac Lifeteam 144, we proudly recognize every member of our crew as a true professional in their field. We take only the best—and we are incredibly proud of the steadfast commitment to excellence each team member brings to every mission. Every time our skids leave the ground, we are heading out to help the next family in need.

Today, we are honored to celebrate Julie Humes, who has been selected as one of Global Medical Response’s 2025 Stars of Life! 🌠

Julie will represent Global Medical Response (GMR) as one of only 32 individuals chosen nationwide to attend the American Ambulance Association’s Stars of Life Program this November in Washington, D.C.

When do we train? Always!

Yesterday’s on-duty crew did some night time outdoor training! We practice our skills in various environments because we never know what we will encounter when we answer a call. We are constantly working to improve our skill and ensure readiness for any situation we end up in!

Pictured is our new flight nurse, Ryan, expertly securing an airway. What you can’t see is the industrial sized fan just out of frame blowing at full speed to create wind, noise, and distraction!
