MERCER ON MISSION : VIETNAM - WINTER 2025
From December 8th-21st 2025, a team of Prosthetists, Medical Professionals, volunteers traveled to providences, Ben Tre and D**g Thap. We were joined by Mercer University’s Physical Therapy Cohort including 2 Faculty and 7 Physical Therapy students.

MOM treated over 800+ patients with
- 230 Prosthetic patients
- 575 Orthopedic patients
- 315 gift envelopes (sponsored by SJVRC “One Mile For One Child” Charity)
- 32 Walkers gifted to patients.

This past weekend, two of our Mercer on Mission 2025 students (Addison Denney: Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, ‘27 and Priya Patel: Bachelors in Biomedical Engineering, ‘27) flew to the annual Biomedical Engineering Society conference in California. Over the last summer trip to Vietnam, they used the Noraxon Myomotion Markerless Capture System for their research project analyzing the gait asymmetries in patients with unilateral sciatica. Their results found that the affected leg showed a shorter stance phase and reduced hip and knee flexion, indicating pain avoidant walking patterns. The study overall showed how accessible and low cost motion capture can be when evaluating gait in low resource regions.

A group of Prosthetists, Physical Therapists, Medical Professionals, and Volunteers will be traveling to Vietnam with the annual Mercer on Mission Winter Program.

We will be traveling to two provinces, Vĩnh Long, and Đồng Tháp
During this time, we are looking for volunteers to help aid and join our team.

MERCER ON MISSION SUMMER 2025

This year, Mercer University took a team of 49 students and 4 faculty to three different provinces in Vietnam in order to build Prosthetics for amputees. Alongside this, the team worked an Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Clinic helping within underserved communities.

The provinces included
- Bến Tre
- Kiên Giang
- Đồng Tháp

From May 20th - June 20th 2025
Mercer on Mission Vietnam worked to serve a total of over 2,700 patients with 1,027 being prosthetic patients.

A team of Mercer Biomedical Engineering students helped fit a bilateral below-knee amputation in D**g Thap, Vietnam. This patient has been walking on his knees for over 20 years and now he can walk on new legs thanks to the group.

Hi everyone! It has been a long time since our students and faculties are able to travel with Mercer On Mission - Orthopedic and Prosthetic Mission. This year our team had a successful return trip to Preah Vihear, Kingdom of Cambodia. During the trip, we reached out to a total of 459 patients (including 369 prosthetic legs, 42 prosthetic hands, and 48 orthopedic patients with disabilities). We are looking forward to expanding our service in Cambodia in the upcoming years to cope with the demand for prosthetic services and orthopedic treatments in the country!
