We encourage as many people as possible who are affected by the EBT funding drop-off to give to their local Food Bank. The Middle Georgia Food Bank. Many people with disabilities rely on this program, especially in current times when the cost of food and groceries has skyrocketed. Let's show support to them. It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Shelly Simmons on August 29, 2025. Shelly served as our Executive Director from September 2017 to present. During her tenure, we saw substantial growth as I&R services for people with disabilities went Statewide and funds for home modifications and other services increased substantially. Her death will leave an irreplaceable void in the Independent Living Movement, but her life’s work in Independent Living left a strong Statewide Independent Living Council with increased staff poised to continue her work.

Become an AdaptED Sports official with AAASP!

We’re hosting two FREE training clinics in August for those interested in officiating wheelchair team sports like handball, basketball, and football.

📍 August 23 – Hampton, GA (Clayton Co.)
📍 August 30 – Warner Robins, GA (Houston Co.)
🕙 Both clinics are from 10 AM – 5 PM (see addresses below)

-Get trained, make an impact, and earn $70 per game
-No cost to attendees – all materials provided
-Great opportunity for coaches, officials & sports lovers!
