Healthy communication isn’t about saying the “right” thing, it’s about feeling heard, understood, and respected.

When we build those skills, we create stronger relationships, safer environments, and deeper connection for ourselves and the people around us.

We support families, caregivers, and educators in building communication that actually connects. 💜

Long post warning...

Intimate partner homicide is rarely random.
It is rarely “out of nowhere.”
According to the Georgia Commission on Family Violence and findings from the Georgia Domestic Violence Fatality Review Project, there are identifiable, repeating patterns before many deaths occur.
Common patterns include:
• Prior threats to kill
• Strangulation history
• Escalating controlling behaviors
• Access to fi****ms
• Obsessive jealousy
• Recent separation
Lethality is a process — not a moment.
If we want to reduce fatalities in Georgia, we must stop responding only to incidents and start responding to patterns.
Choosing Peace means learning to see the pattern early — and acting before it escalates.

It’s okay to say no.

No to what feels overwhelming.
No to what stretches you too thin.
No to what doesn’t support your well-being.

Setting boundaries isn’t selfish; it’s how we take care of ourselves so we can show up fully where it matters most.

When caregivers, educators, and professionals work together, children feel more secure, supported, and understood.

Collaboration creates consistency.
Consistency builds trust.
And trust helps children grow with confidence.

When we work together, children don’t just get support, they thrive.

Sometimes, we all need a little extra support.

You might notice feeling more overwhelmed than usual, having trouble sleeping, feeling disconnected, or finding it harder to cope with everyday stress.

These moments don’t mean something is wrong, they may simply be a sign that you could use additional care and support.

You don’t have to navigate it alone.

When children feel safe and supported, they thrive, emotionally, socially, and academically.

That sense of safety is built through connection, consistency, and care.

When children know they are seen, heard, and supported, they gain the confidence to explore, learn, and grow.

Lasting change doesn’t happen overnight.
It begins with one small, intentional choice.

A different response.
A moment of pause.
A step in a new direction.

Over time, those small choices build into something meaningful.

You don’t have to do everything today, just one small step.

Our Story

Our journey began when the three of us, descendants of enslaved people (grandmother, mother, father) who experienced trauma in our own way, decided we wanted to create a brave, supportive, trauma-informed space to allow our customers (team members and clients alike) to learn, heal, and grow. Thus, The Southern Center for Choice Theory, LLC was born.

After much deliberation, we decided on the name because we knew that we could teach anyone choice theory who was willing to listen. We also wanted our reach to be far - throughout the southern part of the US and beyond.

When asked about our “niche” we decided that all people having experienced some form of trauma and they are interested in the healing part vs the symptom part of their traumas were a perfect match for us. We provide primary, secondary and tertiary prevention services to individuals across the lifespan.

We believe that people are and should be the experts in their lives and we are guides assisting them in finding the true north. For now, we are a part-time agency with a full-time mission - ending the violence that so negatively impacts all our relationships. This includes interpersonal violence & sexual violence, community violence, workplace violence, violence related to racism or any other ism and all of the resulting traumas.
