Wellness Classes in the Spirit of Macon Park

BACKGROUND: On December 2, 2025 the Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority cut the ribbon on the Spirit of Macon Park (SOMP) funded with a generous 2025 national AARP Community Challenge Grant.
Additionally, MBCTA received a generous On The Table Grant from the Community Foundation of Central Georgia to jumpstart a wellness program along with fitness classes in the park.
We invite the community to join us for the inaugural wellness classes listed below. More classes are planned and will be announced when scheduled. We appreciate your help promoting our wellness programming and encourage you to share this information.
Spirit of Macon Park Inaugural Wellness Events
• TAI CHI (made simple!)
Saturday, February 7 at 11:00 am
2 Instructors: Jeff Hobaugh & Dr. Tony Gryffin
Learn this enjoyable, easy to follow, low impact exercise regardless of your age, fitness level or experience. This FREE class includes instruction.
• MOVEMENT & WELLNESS — SESSION 1 - The Road to Good Health
• MOVEMENT & WELLNESS — SESSION 2 - Your Good Health in 2026
Tuesday, February 10 - 1:00 & 1:30 pm
Instructor: Miriam Langley
Two FREE, individual, back-to-back wellness sessions beginning with info on nutrition, fitness,
and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, followed by a movement class with instruction.
The movement section is appropriate for people regardless of age, fitness level or experience.

Rotating classes - 2nd Thursday of every month, March - October 1:00 & 1:30 pm

FREE, easy to follow introductory lesson kicking off Macon’s World Tai Chi Day celebration.
10:00 - 12:00 am - Tai Chi in Rosa Parks Square (larger community event)

Brief demonstrations, introduction to global group practice, & instruction - FREE to all.
