Rest in Peace, Royalty 🖤🐍
Today I’m saying goodbye to my corn snake Royalty, who lived a beautiful 10 years and 3 months. I’ve had her since she was just a week old — a birthday gift from my parents and my science teacher — and from the very beginning she lived up to her name.
Royalty was always different from the rest of her clutch. She was a perfect 50/50 of her parents, her front half resembling her dad and her lower half her mom. Unique, striking, and undeniably herself. She loved being high up in her enclosure, always resting at the very top like she was watching over her little world. Even when she was younger and with her siblings, she would always sleep and stay at the top while the rest remained on the lower portion of the tank or props.
I spoiled her endlessly, and she deserved every bit of it. From her custom 40-gallon Aztec tribal rainforest vivarium to her waterfall and pond — which she adored, even for a corn snake — she lived like reptile royalty. She welcomed me every time I walked in the room and said goodbye each time I left. She loved people, attention, and being handled, but no matter who held her, the second I got close she always came right back to me.
Royalty traveled across the country with me, experiencing more of the world than most snakes ever get the chance to. And even without facial expressions, she was one of the funniest companions I’ve ever had — always watching me with those derpy, curious looks that never failed to make me laugh.
There are countless things I could say about her. I could talk forever about the moments, the memories, and the bond we had. She wasn’t “just a snake.” She was my snake. My best friend. My daughter. She treasured me as much as I treasured her, and losing her leaves an emptiness nothing can replace.
I will always love you, Royalty. I will always miss you. Things won’t be the same without you, but you deserve your rest. Thank you for every moment.
Rest well, sweet girl. You’ll forever be in my heart. 🖤🐍✨
