This week, our High STEP students had the opportunity to hear from Madelia Health’s very own CEO, David Walz!

In addition to leading the organization, Dave is a Certified Nephrology Nurse and shared his expertise on kidney function. Students gained a deeper understanding of how these vital organs work and why they matter.

We are grateful to be part of our future caregiver's journeys into healthcare!

💙 Caregiver Spotlight 💙

Today we’re excited to shine the spotlight on one of our amazing caregivers!

Meet Alyssa Swenson, who works in Patient Services at our New Ulm location. Alyssa brings energy, heart, and a deep connection to our community into everything she does.

💬 Why did you choose Madelia Health?
“I chose Madelia Health because of its high-quality, patient-centered care. I grew up in Madelia when the clinic was on Main Street—I remember stopping in just to say ‘hi’ to the schedulers and nurses or to grab a sucker on my walk home from school. I never imagined back then that I’d one day be working for such an amazing healthcare facility, and now I even get to see my daughter walking these halls in scrubs through the High Step Program.”

☕ Coffee or energy drink?
“I start my morning with a cup of coffee and switch to Diet Pepsi to finish the day.”

🌅 Morning shift or night shift?
“Morning, 100%. I’d start work at 4am—my morning energy should be illegal!”

💬 Favorite way to unwind after work?
“Sitting down with my spouse and kids at the kitchen island and talking about their day. It’s our favorite after school/work/supper hangout where we talk about everything from A to Z and giggle.”

🐾 If you weren’t in healthcare, what would you be doing?
“I think I’d make a wonderful stay-at-home dog/cat mom—tending to our garden and lawn all day.”

💙 What motivates you on tough days?
“My children.”

💬 What’s one thing you hope patients feel when they leave Madelia Health?
“I hope they feel heard, respected, and cared for. I want them to feel seen as an individual and not just a number or diagnosis.”

🎶 What song instantly puts you in a good mood?
“‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ by Whitney Houston—or anything Def Leppard!”

💬 If your coworkers had to describe you in one word, what would it be?
“I don’t know if it’s possible to describe me in one word… but some would say chatty and unique 🙂”

💙 Alyssa’s energy, positivity, and connection to our community truly make a difference every day.

👏 Join us in thanking Alyssa for the care and personality she brings to Madelia Health!
