The DMC crew is recognizing heart month by wearing red today. February is American heart month, intended to raise awareness to help combat heart disease which is the leading cause of death in the United States. Obesity is a leading risk factor of heart disease, and weight loss has been shown to significantly decrease one’s risk of heart disease.

Following bariatric surgery you should get full quickly. This is by design to help with weight loss. Always remember to listen to your stomach.

Joy is such a joy (forgive the joke, but she’s such a great person!). Prior to surgery, she couldn’t button the shirt she’s wearing today. 100 lbs down so far and I think I new wardrobe is in order 😉

One of our excellent patients who had a gastric bypass. She now goes to the gym almost every day, and has a healthy two year old son (and a new puppy!). So very proud of her.

I had the absolute pleasure of being on local TV 4 yesterday for a segment on weight management. The opportunity to provide education about the chronic disease that is obesity helped me to reach many more people than I normally could in a day.

I traveled to Guatemala recently as part of a mission trip designed to provide surgical services for people who lack access to care. It was a week full of gallbladders, hernias, and even some pediatric. We had such a great team this year. It was an extremely fulfilling experience and country is beautiful. I am excited to return next year.
