Hey guys & Girls, just wanted to pop on here real quick to remind everyone that summer is right around the corner and now is the time to start preparing your horse for the hot, humid conditions that are almost upon us .
If you have a horse that suffers with Anhidrosis there are several ways you can help your horse .
As I actually own a horse with Anhidrosis I’ve tried many things over the years to help my horse feel more comfortable with this condition ..Some have helped for a short time, others haven’t helped at all.
First it’s important to make sure that your horse has shelter to get out of the heat, clean supply of fresh cool water, misters and hosing down as often as possible .
If you are able to bring your horse in during the day and turn out at night when it’s cooler this helps tremendously .
Also don’t forget to supplement with Electrolytes..‼️
Another way you can help your horse is through MagnaWave ( PEMF) some horses have been known to benefit from MagnaWave in as little as 1-2 sessions.
I’ve put together a little info below of ways you can help your horse through those hot , humid, brutal summers that we have here and how MagnaWave can help.
WHAT IS ANHIDROSIS
Equine Anhidrosis is a condition where horses lose the inability to sweat Making it difficult to regulate body temperature.
Anhidrosis mostly occurs in the summertime with hot, humid climates .
It can affect horses of any age, s*x or breed limiting their ability to perform.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR YOUR HORSE TO SWEAT
Sweating is natures way of cooling your horse.
Evaporating sweat reduces body heat and prevents your horse from overheating. If your horse doesn’t sweat enough, it may develop heatstroke, a potentially life-threatening condition.
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS Of ANHIDROSIS IN HORSES
MAY INCLUDE :
* Fatigue
* Hot skin
* Flared nostrils
* Decreased intake of water
* Disinterest in food
* Flaky, dry skin
* Hair loss
* Rapid, shallow breathing
* Increased heart rate
* Collapse
Horses with anhidrosis are not able to cool down quickly after exercise.
When a horse does not sweat enough, its internal temperature can soar to 104 F or higher, increasing the risk of heatstroke and death. Horses that have severe cases of anhidrosis may not even be able to stand outside on hot, humid days. Even if they don’t exercise, their temperatures may increase. Rapid breathing, even if your horse is in the shade, could be a sign of anhidrosis.
HOW MAGNAWAVE ( PEMF) CAN HELP YOUR HORSE .
* Cellular Stimulation: PEMF increases oxygenation and circulation to sweat glands, helping them resume function.
* Reduced Stress Response: It acts as a relaxing, therapeutic session that can alleviate the overstimulation of sweat glands often caused by environmental stress.
* Homeostasis Restoration: The therapy assists in balancing the horse’s cellular environment, which is crucial for temperature regulation.
* Effective for Acute Cases: While chronic cases may require ongoing, multi-modal management (e.g., diet, herbs, acupuncture), some horses have shown restored sweating after just one session.
