🦅 SOARING STAFF SPOTLIGHT 🦅

Today, we spotlight Kristen, who is currently an intern at SOAR and a Master’s in Social Work student, bringing compassion, advocacy, and lived experience to her work every day. We're also excited for Kristen to join our Community-Based Services team as a full-time Case Manager next month!

Kristen is passionate about building trust with clients, supporting them as they navigate systems like healthcare and housing, and advocating alongside them to break down barriers.

"What matters most to me is building genuine relationships with clients and recognizing that they are the experts in their own lives. My role is not to speak for them, but to stand alongside them—supporting their goals, amplifying their voices, and helping to break down the barriers that stand in their way. Knowing that this work can make systems feel more accessible and empower people in meaningful ways is what makes it so important to me personally," Kristen says.

Kristen’s lived experiences shape her empathetic, client-centered approach and her commitment to meeting people with dignity and understanding.

Outside of SOAR, she and her family have fostered over 200 animals through Underdog Pet Rescue 🐾—supporting efforts to provide accessible veterinary care, including for pets of people experiencing homelessness.

We’re grateful for the heart Kristen brings to our work and community. 💜

Hotel Washington was a sanctuary and a gathering space for the LGBTQ+ community in Madison for decades. As we are engaged in preserving Madison’s q***r history, let’s lift up Hotel Washington’s presence and influence on our community.

🦅 SOARING STAFF SPOTLIGHT 🦅

Today, we spotlight Gala, our Community Peer Specialist, who presented a breakout at the Infinite Mind Healing Together Conference in Orlando earlier this month. Her presentation, “Mending the Fragments: Navigating Grief in Dissociative Identity Disorder through Kintsugi Grief Art,” explored the intersection of grief, dissociation, and healing through creative expression.

Drawing from lived experience and peer values, Gala shared how the art of Kintsugi, which is repairing broken pottery with gold, can serve as a meaningful metaphor for integrating loss, honoring complex trauma/dissociation, and recognizing beauty in the healing process.

"Conversations like these help expand understanding of complex trauma and remind us that healing does not erase the fractures...it illuminates them," Gala says.

Gala thanks the Infinite Mind Board of Directors for creating space for brave and transformative dialogue.
