Knowing what to do in a mental health crisis can save lives. 💜
A mental health crisis can look different for everyone, but warning signs may include extreme behavior changes, not sleeping or eating for days, severe distress (such as hallucinations or paranoia), threats of harm, or intense isolation.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, support is available:
📞 Call or text 988 to reach the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline for free, confidential support 24/7.
🏥 Contact your county crisis line for local mental health support.
🚨 Call 911 in an emergency and let the dispatcher know it is a mental health crisis. Ask if a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) officer is available.
CIT officers are specially trained law enforcement officers who complete a 40-hour training focused on mental health, de-escalation, trauma-informed response, and connecting people to appropriate services. Their goal is to improve interactions between law enforcement and people experiencing a mental health crisis.
