January 15th, marked what would have been Dr. King’s 97th birthday. His life was cut short at the age of 39 however, his dream of a “beloved community”; a community where everyone has an equal chance to thrive and feel they belong lives on. While we still have plenty of work to do, we have made progress.
In healthcare, we help carry forward Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream by ensuring that every patient who comes through our doors receives the best care possible. Dr. King reminded us of this responsibility when he said, “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman”.
Unfortunately, today there is still inequality in health and healthcare. Luckily, there are people like the folks here at AP, from the clinical side to the administrative side that fight for our patients. You all go the extra mile not because “it’s your job” but because you see the person and their life on the other side of the chart not just a number.
Each of you makes a difference every day. Every time you choose to help others, you embody Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s words: “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve”. Together at AP we move forward Dr. MLK Jr.’s dream of a “beloved community”.
