It’s giving: midwifery in 2026. Just your local community midwives doing their thing to the Little House on the Prairie disco remix from (which is my current hyper fixation song…also Little House was my comfort show this time last year because, well, ya know.)

Midwifery today is as modern as it is historical as a profession.
👏🏼 We carry meds!
👏🏼 We order labs and ultrasounds!
👏🏼 We use technology!
👏🏼 We wash our hands and use sterile equipment!

But also…
We still do some things similarly to an 1800’s midwife:
👏🏼 We come to your house!
👏🏼 We know your family!
👏🏼 We know what herbs are safe and what are not!
👏🏼 We sometimes barter for sourdough and tomatoes 🍅 🥖

Sometimes being a midwife means being the assertive big mean troll outside your door keeping any energy vampires out so everyone is focused on you and what you need.

Hasn’t happened in a long time, but sometimes it’s helpful to have a New York Italian on your side 🤌🏼 🇮🇹 🌶️

2025 was a year that brought with it the most ordinary and everyday and extraordinary and once in a lifetime events that can occur — a birth.
These journeys can unfold in so many ways, all important, life changing, and transformative. I’ll never not be in awe of it. Thanks for inviting me along the journey, families!
