“According to the WHA’s most recent fiscal survey, the state’s hospitals and health systems experienced a modest improvement in finances compared to the last two years, reporting a 2.2% average health system operating margin in 2024. This is the first time that the average health system margin has been in the black in the last three years,” says WHA president and CEO Kyle O’Brien in his most recent President’s Column. He continues, “While this is good news, it must be viewed with caution.”

Where’s WHA? In Washington, DC!
Dec. 9–10, WHA and hospital leaders met with members of Wisconsin’s Congressional Delegation to advance key federal advocacy priorities for hospitals and patients. Discussions included the potential impact of the ACA subsidy cliff, the need to extend critical programs like telehealth and Hospital at Home before the next Continuing Resolution, and the importance of federal approval of Wisconsin Medicaid changes included in the state budget.
