Lots of buzz about the upcoming election! No matter what side you are on, I think we can all agree that preventative health care should be everybody's main focus! Prevention is the key!

Healthy Granola Recipe
Ingredients
o 2 ½ cups old fashioned oats
o 2 tablespoons fruit juice concentrate ( any flavor will work, I use Welch's 100% Juice White Grape Peach)
o 2 tablespoons sugar-free maple syrup
o 3 tablespoons honey
o ¼ cup pecans, chopped
o ¼ cup dried fruit ( I like Sun-maid brand Fruit Bits)
o ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a small saucepan, heat the juice, honey and maple syrup over medium heat until you can stir the mixture easily, but before it starts to boil. About 5 minutes.
3. Place the oats in a large mixing bowl. Pour the honey mixture over the oats and stir quickly to coat.
4. Spread the oats in an even layer on a baking sheet. Bake until the granola is crisp and starts to brown. About 15 minutes. Watch it carefully, or the granola may burn.
5. Place the baking sheet on a cooling rack and while the granola is still warm, toss in the pecans and dried fruit. Sprinkle with cinnamon and finish cooling on the baking sheet.
6. Store in an airtight container

**You can obviously substitute things in that you like
• Flax seed, wheat germ, almonds, other dried fruit, unsweetened dried coconut, can add vanilla extract to the “sauce” mixture to add some more flavor, more cinnamon (cinnamon is a calming food)

Here we go with more snow!! It's going to be a little cold out there tonight, so here is a yummy crock pot recipe:

Jambalaya for the Crock Pot
Ingredients
o 12 ounces boneless skinless chicken breasts
o 1 ½ cups green peppers, chopped
o 1 medium onions, chopped
o 2 celery ribs, sliced
o 4 garlic cloves, minced
o 1 (14 ounce) cans whole tomatoes
o 1/3 cup tomato paste
o 1 (10 ½ ounce) cans beef broth ** use reduce sodium**
o 1 tablespoon parsley
o 1 ½ teaspoons basil
o ½ teaspoon oregano
o 1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
o ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
o ½ teaspoon salt
o 1 lb shrimp, shelled
o 3 cups cooked rice
Directions
1. Cut chicken into 1 inch pieces.
2. Put all ingredients (EXCEPT shrimp and rice) in crock pot.
3. Cover; cook on low for 8 hours.
4. Add shrimp the last 20 minutes of cooking.
5. Stir in rice before serving.

did you know, that a 140lb person burns about 200 calories per 30 minutes of shoveling snow by hand!! hey, now aren't you glad that it snowed finally?!? so get out there and shovel your driveways and sidewalks maybe even your neighbors! :)
