Be on the lookout for sneaky messages that appear to come from the Department of Transportation (DOT) claiming you need to sign up for services, pay fees, or update your information. These messages might look official, but they're not! Scammers and drug testing companies are getting creative, trying to trick you into signing up for unnecessary services and paying for services that are free. If you get a text, email, or snail mail, saying you owe fees or need to sign up for something DOT-related, don't click any links or provide any personal info! A good way to detect if something is truly coming from the DOT is the email address does the email address end in .gov, or at the bottom of the snail mail message does it reads “not affiliated with the DOT.” If it does not reach out directly to the official DOT through their verified contact channels to confirm if the message is legit or simply contact us, we are happy to help determine if the message is legit or not. Hello everyone, I know it’s been a stretch but welcome to another edition of Friday Funnies! I’m going to be honest with you, I don’t think I’ve ever had a job where I have been consistently lied to as much as I have drug testing. Its all day everyday in this industry and sometimes it makes you lose hope in humanity. I’ll give you some examples of the lies we hear when we have people cheating on drug tests: I can’t leave another sample because “I have to pick up my kids, my (insert relative/family members name) just got into a car accident, I just went to the bathroom I can’t possibly go again!” You name it we have probably heard it. It is rare that someone is honest and upfront with us. One day we were giving a drug test to a young lady and when she brought out the sample it was not within temperature range and the SAME stuff that you buy off the internet that we get every day. We go through our speech about how they will have to stay and give another sample or leave and deal with the consequences of potentially not getting the job they’ve applied for. She didn’t say much until we got out of the bathroom area and back at the front desk. She told us that she cheated and brought in the sample because she knew she would test positive for THC. I was dumbfounded! I barely knew what to say after her full confessional but managed to mutter thank you for telling us the truth and hoped she could somehow work it out with her employer. Frankly as an employer myself, if someone was that honest with me about their lifestyle choices, I’d be far more understanding and possibly willing to work with a person like her that had the integrity to tell the truth. It was the first and still the only full confessional we’ve ever gotten, but remember that the truth shall set you free my friends! Happy Friday!

Ever wonder if a drug test is required after an accident? See the chart below to see if Post Accident testing is required. If a drug and alcohol test are required the alcohol test must occur within 8 hours, and the drug test must occur within 32 hours.

How can it be Friday already, I almost missed our Friday Funnies. We do a lot of DNA testing at our clinics, and I lot of folks get what we do confused. For instance, we had a lady call and wanted a single strand of hair tested…. Well, I have TONS of questions, and she was annoyed that I was asking. First off, I need to know WAY more about what is going on. She stated that she thinks someone broke into her house and left a single strand of hair on her stove like a calling card that they were there. Well, my first thoughts are that could be anyone’s hair, mailman, handyman, dog, cat, or even hers. Even if we could test a single strand of hair what would we compare that DNA too?? She got super snotty and said aren’t their databases for that type of thing, like I was an idiot. Well yes there are but it’s called CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) and if you think we have the same “clearance” as the FBI you are sorely mistaken. She again got upset with me and said don’t you have access to that 23 and Me DNA. Again no, that is a private company, and we cannot get a warrant to access that info, we are not the cops. Unfortunately, not everything is as you see on TV and we are not CSI we are more of the “you are not the father type of DNA”, but if we were man, we would have way better Friday Funnies to tell you. Happy Friday and welcome to Friday Funnies! We do a good bit of business “on-site” which means we provide drug testing to companies after hours and we go to them instead of them coming to one of our clinics. I was called out to one of these companies one night for an on-site drug test. The company I was going to we get a pretty sweet area to do testing in, it’s a physical therapy/medical room with its own bathroom, a drug testers dream. I get through the breathalyzer portion of the testing with no issues, and I have the gentlemen empty his pockets and then wash his hands. As he is washing his hands, I’m in the bathroom getting things set up for him. When I come out of the bathroom, he says to me “this soap has a weird smell,” I don’t really think anything of it and I give him his cup and he goes into the bathroom. As I was standing there waiting for him, I too could smell something strange and was looking around the sink when I found the smell. He came out of the bathroom, and I took the bottle and said “is this what you used to wash your hands?” He said “yeh and it smells funny that’s what I was talking about.” I couldn’t believe it, he used Biofreeze to wash his hands. If you are not familiar Biofreeze is like old school Bengay, the ointment you use for sore muscles that is super tingly on the skin. I was like oh boy you just washed your hands with that and then touched your downstairs, oh noooooo!!! I started to explain to him what he had used and asked him if it was starting to hurt in his neither region. He said, “it doesn’t hurt but it is tingling.” I said, “you better go to the big bathroom next door and wash it off.” He kept fighting me saying he was fine, but I told him “he’s fine now, but give it 10 more minutes and he will be sprinting for the bathroom.” He finally took me seriously and went in to wash it off. He learned a valuable lesson that day and let this be a cautionary tale to all that read this, look before you wash!! Happy Friday!
