Our thanks to Zakeya B. for her outstanding service as a Senior Helper! January 2026 Caregiver of the Month 🥳🤩
What is your favorite memory you have as a Senior Helper, or a funny story you remember with a client?
Since I’ve been a Senior Helper I’ve made lots of great memories with all my clients, but one of my favorite memories would have to be when I put up and decorated my clients ENTIRE Christmas Tree! The look on their faces when it was finished was so heart warming!
How did you come to this care-giving position? What draws you to care-giving?
Caring for people has always been something i’ve loved to do! I value helping people remain comfortable, safe, and dignified in their own homes.
What draws me most to this work is building trust with clients and being able to support their daily routines, independence, and emotional wellbeing.
I find it truly rewarding to know that my presence helps someone feel respected, cared for, and able to stay in the place they call home!
Can you give us some information about your own family? What do you do for fun/in your free time?
My family consists of my mom who is a supervisor at a memory care home, my younger brother who was a multi sport athlete in high school, and my younger sister who is currently getting her Masters degree in Clinical counseling .
I graduated from cosmetology school in December of 2019. We had 2 dogs Packer (pomeranian terrier) and Ginger (cane corso) and 2 cats Biggie and Casper.
During my free time, I enjoy sitting in mirror for hours doing my eyelash extensions and makeup lol, finding new recipes,
volunteering at the Humane Society, reading, and doing hair for family and friends.
Any advice for our other caregivers?
Build trust first! Take time to listen to the clients preferences, routines, and stories. Feeling heard makes care much smoother!
And of course take care of yourself and ask for help whenever you need!
