We are thrilled to share that Kevin Eliceiri, the Associate Director of the McPherson Eye Research Institute, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Spencer Shorte Legacy Award by the Association of Biomolecular Research Facilities and Core Technologies for Life Sciences.
This honor recognizes Kevin’s extraordinary contributions to scientific collaboration, mentorship, and community building. As part of the award, he will launch the Illuminating People Program (IPP)—a new initiative designed to connect early-career researchers with experienced mentors, especially those who may not otherwise have access to these relationships.
Kevin’s work continues to shape not only scientific discovery but also the people and partnerships that make it possible. We are incredibly proud to have him as part of our community.

MERI member Jeremy Rogers (Director of WAIVS, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences) will be giving a lecture on Tuesday, April 7th at 10 am. The talk, titled "Longitudinal AOSLO imaging of photoreceptors in animal models from mice to monkeys? Congratulations to MERI member Professor Mohit Gupta, winner of a 2026 Vilas Associate Award! Mohit Gupta is an Associate Professor of Computer Sciences and Director of the WISIONLab. His research interests include developing the next generation of computer vision systems via research in designing novel computational cameras and developing physics- and learning-based algorithms for scene interpretation.
