I recently presented a workshop on storytelling and the power of our voices to a group of amazing women for an upcoming event, 'Yo Quiero Dinero'. Knowing the organizer and the event which I've been apart of helped inspire me to do something I haven't done in awhile; write a poem. We are no strangers
to the weight of the world—
its burdens pressed into our palms,
its expectations stitched into our skin.

We are often celebrated
for what our bodies can provide,
yet overlooked
for the brilliance of our minds,
the depth of our vision,
the fire in our voices.

Silenced,
we are told to swallow storms,
to smile through the pain,
to carry generations quietly.

Expected to bend
but never break,
to give endlessly
and ask for little.

And still we rise,
not just wombs,

or pretty faces
not just shoulders to carry the weight,
or caretakers of everyone else’s dreams.

We are creators,
leaders,
keepers of memories
and makers of tomorrow.

The weight of this world
will know our names.

We will set ourselves free—
speaking truth to power,
breathing life where there is silence,
unapologetically rewriting our future
for those that dared to leave us whole.
