🔥 Sudden joint pain that wakes you up at night? It might be gout.

Gout is a common type of arthritis caused by a buildup of uric acid in the body — and it can be extremely painful.

🚨 Common symptoms:

• Sudden, intense joint pain (often overnight)
• Swelling and redness
• Warmth in the joint
• Extreme tenderness (even a bedsheet can hurt!)
• Most commonly affects the big toe 👣

It can also affect the ankle, knee, wrist, or elbow — and may come and go in flares.

🧪 How is gout diagnosed?

• Joint fluid testing (to confirm uric acid crystals)
• Blood tests (uric acid levels — ⚠️ can be normal during an acute attack)
• Imaging if needed

💊 Treatment options:

**During a flare:**
• Anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs)
• Colchicine
• Steroids

**Long-term prevention:**
• Medications to lower uric acid (like allopurinol)
• Lifestyle changes (diet, hydration, limiting alcohol 🍺)

⚠️ Don’t ignore it

Untreated gout can lead to repeated attacks and joint damage over time.

If you’re having sudden joint pain, get it checked — relief is possible! 🙌

Feeling tired all the time? 😴 Gaining weight without changing your diet? ⚖️ Always cold when everyone else is comfortable? 🥶

These could be signs of an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) — a common but often overlooked condition.

Common symptoms include:
• Fatigue or low energy 😴
• Weight gain ⚖️
• Cold intolerance 🥶
• Constipation 🚽
• Dry skin 🧴
• Hair thinning or loss 💇‍♀️
• Brain fog or memory issues 🧠
• Depression or low mood 😔
• Heavy or irregular periods 🩸

Because these symptoms can be subtle or overlap with other conditions, many people don’t realize what’s going on.

The good news: a simple blood test 🧪 (TSH and Free T4) can help diagnose it.

If something feels off, don’t ignore it — getting checked could make a big difference in how you feel every day. 💙

**Why We Chose Urgent Care — And What That Means for You ❤️**

When we started ApproXie, we weren’t thinking about building a “business.”

We were thinking about something much simpler:

👉 *Why is it so hard to get care when you actually need it?*

---

Most people have experienced it:

* You’re sick, but the next available appointment is weeks away 😷
* You go to the ER… and wait for hours ⏳
* Or you’re rushed through a visit that doesn’t feel personal

It’s frustrating. And honestly, it shouldn’t be that way.

---

So we asked ourselves a different question:

💡 *What would healthcare look like if it actually worked for patients?*

---

That’s why we started with urgent care.

Not because it was easy.
Not because it was trendy.

But because it was the one place where we could say:

👉 “If you need help today, we’ll take care of you today.”

---

We built everything around that idea:

* **No unnecessary waiting** ⏱️
* **Focused care on what brought you in** 🎯
* **Respect for your time and your life** 🙌
* **A team that treats you like family** ❤️

---

Along the way, we’ve made mistakes.

We’ve had moments where we didn’t get it right.

But every time, we’ve gone back to the same question:

👉 *What’s best for the patient in front of us?*

---

That’s what continues to guide us.

Not policies.
Not assumptions.
Not “how it’s always been done.”

Just people.

---

Urgent care wasn’t the end goal for us.

It was the starting point for something bigger:

💭 A healthcare experience that is faster, more thoughtful, and actually built around you.

---

If you’ve trusted us with your care — thank you.

And if you haven’t visited us yet, just know:

We’re here when you need us.

No delays. No runaround. Just care. ❤️

🦠 Coronavirus NL63 – Detected

This is NOT COVID-19 ❌🧪
NL63 is a common seasonal coronavirus that usually causes cold-like symptoms 🤧

Typical symptoms:
• Runny nose
• Cough
• Sore throat
• Fever
• Congestion
It may also present as croup or an asthma exacerbation

Most cases are mild and treated with rest, fluids, and over-the-counter fever reducers 💊💧

👶👵 Those who are very young, elderly, or have asthma/lung conditions should monitor symptoms closely.

It spreads like a regular cold — so wash hands 🧼, cover coughs 🤧, and stay home if you're sick 🏠

Feel better soon! 💙

👂🦠🤧 Ear Infections After a Cold? Here’s Why It Happens…

It’s very common for ear infections to develop after a viral illness like a cold 🤒, flu 🤧, or RSV 🦠. When your child has congestion, the Eustachian tubes (tiny tubes that drain fluid from the middle ear) can become swollen and blocked. That trapped fluid 🫧 creates the perfect environment for bacteria to grow — leading to an ear infection 😣👂🔥.

👶🧒 Who is more susceptible?
• Infants and toddlers 👶 (shorter, more horizontal ear tubes)
• Kids in daycare or school 🎒🏫
• Children with frequent colds 🤧 or allergies 🌼
• Exposure to secondhand smoke 🚭
• Bottle-fed babies drinking while lying flat 🍼

👀⚠️ Signs to watch for:
• Ear pain or tugging at the ear 👂
• Fever 🌡️
• Fussiness or irritability 😩
• Trouble sleeping 😴
• Decreased appetite 🍽️
• Ear drainage 🫗
• Trouble hearing or saying “what?” more than usual 🙉

The good news? 🙌 Most ear infections are very treatable. Some need antibiotics 💊, while others can be safely monitored depending on age and severity.

If your child is getting over a viral illness and suddenly seems uncomfortable, we’re here to help 🏥💙 Walk in anytime — no appointment needed ⏰✨

We’re continuing to see elevated flu cases in our area 🤧📈

Dr. Shah's recent experience:

🏫 Mill Creek – Flu A

🏫 Liberty, Discovery & Bob Jones – Flu B

If you’re having mild symptoms like headache or body aches and test negative, a few things could be happening:
• 🕒 You may be early in the illness
• 🧪 The sample may not have captured enough virus
• 💪 Your immune system may be keeping symptoms mild

If symptoms worsen, we recommend getting tested again.

We’ve also seen patients who don’t have classic flu symptoms test positive after a known exposure — so if you’ve been around someone with flu, stay alert 👀

💊 Symptomatic Treatment for Flu

Most flu cases can be managed with supportive care:

✅ Rest — your body needs energy to fight the virus
✅ Fluids — water, electrolyte drinks, broths to prevent dehydration
✅ Fever & body aches — acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin) as directed
✅ Cough & congestion — OTC cold/flu medications as appropriate | Delsym or Robitussin DM
✅ Humidifier & warm showers for congestion relief

⚠️ Follow up if you experience:

Shortness of breath

Chest pain

Persistent high fever

Dehydration

Symptoms improving then suddenly worsening

If you’re unsure, we’re here to help. Early evaluation can make a difference, especially for high-risk patients.

Stay safe and take care of one another ❤️

👩‍⚕️ LISTEN UP, ALABAMA — MADISON COUNTY FAMILIES ESPECIALLY! 🧑‍⚕️

HB 276 is officially scheduled for a House floor vote this Tuesday, February 10th. 🏁

Why This Matters

HB 276 will make sports physicals more accessible for students right here in Madison County. Families shouldn’t have to jump through hoops—or drive long distances—just to get a required form signed so kids can play sports.

What the Bill Does

✔️ Allows Nurse Practitioners, Midwives, and Physician Assistants to sign sports physicals
✔️ Prevents athletic associations from rejecting these legally valid exams

The Impact for Madison County Students

✅ Improved Access: More local options for sports physicals, fewer delays, fewer missed seasons

✅ Stronger Healthcare Teams: Allows clinicians to practice at the top of their license

📣 TAKE ACTION TODAY:
Please call or email your Alabama House Representative and urge them to vote YES on HB 276.

Suggested Message:

“Please vote YES on HB 276 to improve access to sports physicals for students in Madison County and across Alabama.”
