It’s been a wild/amazing/beautiful first year of practice as a midwife! Pulling together these numbers causes me to pause and reflect with incredible gratitude on these last 12 months. I’m so thankful for the families I’ve gotten to serve, the friends I’ve made along the way, and all the baby snuggles.

Giving birth in your own home

My first exposure to birth was in North Africa where home birth is the norm. Through this experience, God instilled in me a passion to be part of the birth process for other women. After receiving a nursing degree, I worked in a hospital setting for a couple year, and realized that this was not a setting that allowed me to make decisions that were in the best interest of my patient. As a nurse, I was required to follow doctor’s orders that I felt were harming my patients, and the hospital was making policies that prevented the doctors from making decisions that truly kept the individual in mind. So I moved back to the homebirth setting, where I have been ever since. I truly love that I can work with my patients to make decisions - together - regarding their birth that are right for them.
