Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition

Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition A primary prevention coalition mobilizing our community to reduce substance misuse in Monroe County. Providing education & resources for future generations.

Funded by TDMHSAS. The Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition (PWC) is an alliance of organizations and people from all sectors of our community. For over a decade, the PWC has been effective in policy change, prevention programming, increased opportunities for positive health impact, and the overall reduction of risky behaviors. Although the priority of the PWC remains primary prevention, our work has had a positive impact throughout the community in many other ways. The PWC has several substances that we address: alcohol (underage use), nicotine, prescription drugs, opioids (illicit) and stimulants, and marijuana/THC/derivatives. Under those areas of focus are several initiatives and programs such as community events like 'Smash the Stigma' Community Water Balloon Fight and the DEA Drug Take Back Day, youth clubs in the schools, overdose prevention training where you learn how to use and receive naloxone, training for businesses, community education, free medication drop boxes, parental education (particularly with our Revealed: A Hidden World trailer), training for teachers/school admin/law enforcement, alcohol awareness training for servers/restaurants that sell alcohol, and youth substance misuse classes within our schools, Boys & Girls Club, and juvenile program. We also work closely with local law enforcement on compliance checks and saturation patrols.

During CADCA (Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America), we attend Capitol Hill Day to visit with Tennessee's legislators. EVERY year Congressman Chuck Fleischmann takes, and makes, time to visit with prevention coalitions in his region. He doesn't do it just for a photo op (though we love those too), he does it to hear from those with boots on the ground. He knows the power of primary prevention and he fights for us. He understands that for every $1 spent on primary prevention, there is a cost savings of up to $17.33. He talks, he listens, he asks questions. He has a love for Monroe County and even has an original watercolor of our beautiful courthouse, painted by the talented Ellen Thomas, displayed in his office. We truly appreciate him and his fabulous team!

โ„๏ธ Snow Day Fentanyl Bust โ„๏ธ

January 31st 2026 | 6:30pm

While winter weather moved into the area, our officers were still hard at work keeping our community safe.

Narcotics Division Sergeant Thomas Spradlin had been working a case for several days involving a wanted individual known for drugs, Kalob Hall. After receiving information on Hallโ€™s location, Sergeant Spradlin requested assistance from our Patrol Division. Officers responded to the area, made contact, and took Hall into custody without incident.

During the arrest, Hall was found to be in possession of a resale amount of suspected fentanyl totaling over half an ounce, with an estimated street value of more than $3,000. Thatโ€™s dozens of potentially deadly doses now off our streets.

Great work by both divisions!
