We were honored to be part of the Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition’s 3rd Annual Mental Health Day at SQHS! 💙

The Health Council led an interactive activity titled “Believe It, Achieve It” Vision Board, where students reflected on their personal journeys—celebrating goals they’ve already accomplished, recognizing challenges they’ve overcome, and dreaming boldly about what they want for their future.

It was inspiring to see so many students embrace the opportunity to focus on hope, resilience, and goal-setting. Creating space for young people to visualize their potential is a powerful step toward strengthening mental wellness.

Thank you to PWC and SQHS for allowing us to be part of such a meaningful day! ✨

Here are some of the benefits to planting trees, aka: reasons we're proud to be a part of TECTN's 2026 TN Tree Day...

🌳 Environmental Benefits

Improves air quality: Trees absorb pollutants and release oxygen, reducing respiratory irritants.

Combats climate change: They capture carbon dioxide, helping reduce greenhouse gases.

Supports biodiversity: Trees provide habitat and food for birds, pollinators, and wildlife.

Reduces erosion & improves soil health: Roots stabilize soil and prevent runoff.

Manages stormwater: Trees absorb rainwater, reducing flooding and strain on drainage systems.

🏡 Community & Economic Benefits

Lowers energy costs: Shade from trees can reduce cooling needs in homes and buildings.

Increases property values: Tree-lined neighborhoods are more desirable and valuable.

Enhances community spaces: Trees make parks, streets, and neighborhoods more inviting.

Supports local agriculture: Windbreaks and soil improvement benefit crops and gardens.

💚 Health & Well-being Benefits

Improves mental health: Access to green spaces is linked to reduced stress, anxiety, and depression.

Encourages physical activity: People are more likely to walk and spend time outdoors in green areas.

Reduces heat-related illness: Shade lowers temperatures in communities (especially important in summer).

🌱 Youth & Prevention Impact

Builds protective factors: Community involvement (like tree planting) fosters connection, purpose, and pride.

Promotes environmental stewardship: Especially in youth, planting trees builds responsibility and long-term thinking.

Creates safer, more connected communities: Greener spaces are linked to reduced crime and stronger social ties.
