West AHEC had so much fun today with the BSMS Leadership Academy students. They were able to hear from Dr. Tate Burris about the residency program at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville. Additionally, they learned about a variety of jobs in a hospital setting such as HR with Lauren Collins and Laci Blue, and infection control from Trisha Gossett. They got to spend some time with Dr. Crump and his students from ULTC. They spent some time in the ambulance and learning from Justin Cardwell. Students also got to engage in some hands activities and a short tour while on campus.

Our Nurse PATH students have been soaking up SO much over the past two months, and we couldn’t be more proud!

Last month, they had the incredible opportunity to visit Mother Baby/Labor & Delivery and the NICU, getting a firsthand look at the very beginning of life and the specialized care that supports the tiniest patients. 💕👶

And today they dove into the fast-paced world of the ER and CCU, learning what it takes to stay calm, skilled, and compassionate in some of the most critical moments. 🚑❤️

We are so grateful for the amazing nurses who have shared their personal journeys into healthcare and poured into these students!

West AHEC joined the other KY AHEC’s in Frankfort on Tuesday. We were honored to have Addison Howard, a Nursing Pathway student and Emma Rogers, a participant in our Health Careers Explorers program join us.
West AHEC staff and these two young ladies met with 11 state legislators to share how their generous funding is impacting students across the state.
We are thankful to have legislators willing to work to protect, promote, and recruit healthcare workers across the state of Kentucky.
