My Functional Smile Myofunctional Therapy for ages 4+

I’ll be honest: I’ve never been a fan of being “on” social media. But I realized something recently—my dislike for socials doesn’t matter as much as my passion for helping your family finally sleep through the night. 💤
I’m showing up here because it’s the fastest way to reach the parents who are currently staring at the ceiling at 3:00 AM, wondering if it ever gets easier.
It does.
If you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and ready for a plan that actually works, let’s get to work. I’m ready to help you reclaim your nights.

We tend to measure a good night's sleep by the clock. "They were out for 10 hours, so they should be rested, right?"

Not necessarily.

If your child is a mouth-breather, they aren't just sleeping; they are running an invisible marathon. When the mouth is open, the body has to work twice as hard to get oxygen to the brain. This keeps the nervous system in a state of low-level "survival mode" all night long.

Why this matters for your child:

Brain Recovery: Without nasal breathing, the brain struggles to reach the deep cycles where it actually "cleans" itself and stores memories.

Immune Health: Nasal breathing filters and warms the air. Mouth breathing sends dry, raw air straight to the lungs, often leading to those "never-ending" sniffles.

Morning Energy: If they wake up "cranky" or "foggy" after a long night’s sleep, it’s because their body never actually got to take a break.

At My Functional Smile, we don't care about "straight teeth"—we care about straightening out the airway. We retrain the tongue and the lips to stay sealed so that sleep can finally be what it’s meant to be: restorative.

The "Missing Link" in Your Care Plan

Have you ever noticed that you get a great adjustment from your chiropractor, but a few days later, that tension in your neck or jaw starts creeping right back in?

Here is why: Chiropractors are experts at aligning the structure of your body. But if the muscles (the function) are pulling in the wrong direction 24/7, that structure won't stay put.

How we work together:

1. The Airway Connection: If a child (or adult) is a mouth-breather, they often develop a "forward head posture" to open their airway. A chiropractor can adjust the neck, but if the patient is still mouth-breathing, the body will pull the head right back forward to survive.

2. The Tongue "Anchor": The tongue is connected to the hyoid bone, which is connected to the muscles of the neck and shoulders. If the tongue is resting on the floor of the mouth instead of the roof, it creates a "tug-of-war" with the cervical spine.

3. Stability: Chiropractic care clears the path so the nervous system can communicate. Myofunctional therapy then retrains the muscles to support that new, healthy alignment.

The Result? Adjustments that "hold" longer, better breathing, and a body that finally stops fighting itself.

Are you or your child seeing a chiropractor but still struggling with "posture drift" or mouth breathing? Let’s bridge the gap. Click the link in our bio to book a Myofunctional Consultation.

Don’t mind me, I’m just over here replaying that conversation on a loop.
Nothing—and I mean nothing—beats the feeling of hearing that a family has finally found peace. When the “Night Ninjas” stop fighting for air, the chronic “seasonal” colds disappear, and parents finally get to sleep past 2:00 AM... that is exactly why I do what I do.
I’m not just listening to your progress; I’m over here celebrating it like a proud auntie.
The Myofunctional Win:
When we get the tongue up and the mouth closed, we aren’t just “doing exercises.” We are resetting the body’s ability to rest and recover. Better breathing = Better immunity = Better sleep for the entire house.
If you’re ready to be the next parent telling me “everyone is finally sleeping,” let’s get to work.

Sometimes, you don’t need to be an expert to see that a major change has happened. The "Before and After" of a child moving from survival breathing to functional health tells a story all its own.

What you’re seeing is a transformation of function:
In the "Before" (left), this child’s body is manually pulling the airway open just to get a breath. The head juts forward, the neck is strained, and the posture reflects the constant struggle to find air.

In the "After" (right), that battle is over. This child isn't "standing taller" because they’ve been practicing their posture. They are standing taller because they can finally, effortlessly, breathe through their nose. ✅ Their mouth is resting closed.
✅ Their neck muscles can finally relax.
✅ Their entire posture has self-corrected because the foundation (the airway) is supported.

This isn't about looking perfect. It’s about breathing easily. When you fix the function of the breath, the body can finally rest.

👉 Does your child lean their head forward or look "strained" when they breathe? Their body might be fighting an airway battle. Click the link in our bio to book a Myofunctional Assessment.

Is your child a Night Ninja? 🥷💤

If you go in to check on your child and find them sideways in bed, with their blankets kicked to the floor and their pillow in the corner, you might think they’re just an "active sleeper."

Here’s what I think the problem is:
They aren't practicing their karate moves—they are airway searching. When a child can't breathe easily through their nose, or their tongue is falling back into their throat, their body goes into a mini-panic. They toss and turn instinctively to find a position—any position—that opens up that airway.

The "Ninja" Cycle:

1. The Airway Struggles: Breathing becomes restricted.

2. The Adrenaline Spike: The brain sends a jolt of stress hormone to wake the body up just enough to move.

3. The Kick/Flip: They move their body or arch their neck to "clear the pipe" and get a breath.

4. Repeat: This happens all night long.

They aren't restless; they are struggling. This constant "ninja" movement prevents them from reaching the deep, restorative sleep they need for brain development and mood regulation.

The Goal: Sleep should be still. Sleep should be silent.

👉 Is your child a Night Ninja? It’s time to stop the struggle and look at the function of their breathing. Click the link in our bio to book a Myofunctional Assessment.

I know that “deer in the headlights” feeling.
You want the best for your child, but the airway world is loud, expensive, and confusing. It’s easy to freeze up and do nothing—but your child can’t afford the “wait and see” approach.
My best advice? Find a professional whose philosophy aligns with yours and just get going. You’ll find your rhythm once you’re in motion.
If you’re feeling stuck or don’t know who to call first, send me a message. I’m always here to help. ✨

These photos show the incredible 8-month journey of a patient who moved from survival breathing to functional health. What changed?

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Notice the head position in the side profile. When the airway is narrow, a child will tip their head forward to breathe. Once the tongue provides internal support, the posture self-corrects.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽: This isn't just a dental change. This child moved from restless, mouth-breathing sleep to quiet, deep, nasal-breathing sleep.

The Lesson: Braces move teeth, but Myofunctional Therapy moves the foundation. When we fix the function, the structure follows.

👉 Does your child have a narrow smile or slumped posture? It’s usually an airway issue in disguise. Click the link in our bio to book a Myofunctional Assessment and let’s build a better foundation.

Is Your Child’s Snore a "Red Flag" in Disguise? 🚩😴

We’ve all heard it—the "cute" little whistle or the heavy breathing of a child in a "deep sleep." But here is the medical truth: Snoring in children is never normal.

Think of snoring like a smoke alarm for the airway. It’s the sound of air struggling to get past an obstruction—usually a low tongue, large tonsils, or a narrow palate.

Why a "Snore" is a Big Deal for a Small Brain:

Fragmented Sleep: Every snore is a mini-struggle for oxygen. This keeps the brain in a light, "survival" stage of sleep instead of the deep, restorative REM sleep they need to grow.

The "Adrenaline" Cycle: When a child's airway narrows, their body pumps out stress hormones to keep them breathing. This is why "snorers" often wake up grumpy, hyperactive, or unable to focus.

Growth Disruption: The majority of a child’s growth hormone is released during deep, quiet sleep. If they are snoring, that process is interrupted.

The Functional Goal:
Sleep should be silent. Breathing should be through the nose. The tongue should be resting on the roof of the mouth, acting as a natural "guard" to keep the airway open.

The Check-In: Creep into your child’s room tonight. Are their lips parted? Can you hear them breathing? Silence is the goal.

👉 Does your child snore or breathe loudly at night? Don't wait for them to "outgrow" it. Click the link in our bio to book a Myofunctional Assessment and let's clear the path for their best sleep yet.
