Junior L. Hart

Junior Lewis Hart of Massillon passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026. Junior was born on December 5, 1941, in Harrisville, West Virginia, to the late Jacob Hart and Zula Moore Stephens. He graduated from Parkersburg High School. As a young man, Junior followed his brother Bill to northeast Ohio where he found work at Canton Aluminum and met Judy Hawk, who was the enduring love of his life. Judy and Junior knew each other for a month before they eloped in May 1961. As a young man, Junior was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #141 where he played basketball and fumbleball. Later, Junior worked at Block Coal and Supply, and then he drove for Roadway for over two million accident-free miles. He was proud to be a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union.

Junior attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Canton, Calvary Lutheran Church in Ruskin, Florida, and St. Jacob Lutheran Church in Massillon.

Junior enjoyed seeing the country in an RV after retiring from Roadway. He and Judy spent many happy months exploring national parks out West and even traveled to Alaska. Junior relished life as a snowbird, wintering in Ruskin, Florida for nearly twenty years where he spent countless hours scouring the beach for seashells.

At home, Junior devoted lots of time to a large vegetable garden and blueberry bushes. He and Judy were an expert canning team, and Junior baked lots of cookies for his sons and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Junior’s wife, Judy; son Nelson; and siblings Bill, Grover, Wilma, Harry, and Virginia preceded him in death. Junior is survived by his loving sons Brad (Vickie) and Lauren (Lisa); grandchildren Patrick, Mitch, and Tricia; two sisters, Carol and Joyce; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Bethany Rehabilitation and Aultman Hospice for the care they provided to Junior. In lieu of flowers, donations in Junior’s memory may be made to the Stark County Humane Society or St. Jacob Lutheran Church in Massillon.

Darlene M. Bankert

Darlene M. Bankert, age 92, of Magnolia passed away on April 17, 2026. She was born in Canton on February 17, 1934. Darlene was a Tuscarawas Valley High School graduate and retired from the Timken Company. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert W. Bankert.

Dorothy Applegarth

Dorothy A. Applegarth,

Age 90, of Magnolia, passed away Wed., Apr. 1, 2026. She was born Dec. 31, 1935, in Mineral City, a daughter of the late Max and Blanche (Jones) Myers. Dorothy was a 1953 graduate of Mineral City High School and retired from James IGA in Magnolia. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles Applegarth, on Nov. 28, 2001; twin sister Delores Myers, sisters Mary Devine, and Ruth Randulich; and her brothers, Richard, Moxie and Jay Myers. Survived by her daughters, Karen Schweitzer, Sharon Baker, and Susan (Tim) Russell; her sons, Rick (Karen) McCartney and William McCartney; and seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. William Lee "Bill" Cordia Jr.

William Lee “Bill” Cordia Jr., age 57, of Carrollton passed away with his family by his side on April 14, 2026. He was born in Canton on May 31, 1968, a son to William and Joyce Cordia Sr. Bill was a graduate of Sandy Valley High School class of 1986. He was an autobody technician with Waynesburg Carriage for 34 years. Bill enjoyed wood working and fixing anything and everything.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 37 years Deborah (Knepper) Cordia; his mother Joyce Cordia; his father William (Melonie) Cordia Sr.; 2 sons Daniel (Caitlin) Knepper, William “Billy” (Amanda) Cordia III; 3 grandchildren Hunter, Mason, and Logan; sister Tina Cordia; 2 brothers Derek Cordia, and Russell (Crystal) Cordia; and a host of extended family.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Tamara K. Reynolds,

Age 67, of East Sparta, passed away Tues., Apr. 7, 2026. She was born Nov. 27, 1958, in Canton, a daughter of Tom (Barb) Hackathorn and the late Shirley Getz.

Preceded in death by husband, Timothy Reynolds. Survived by two daughters, Callie Reynolds and Amber Gooch; one son, Michael Keinath; one sister, Liz (Michael) Tsueda; and her grandchildren, Kaela, Leigha, Brodi, Ava, Anna, and Nathan.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4pm on April 26, 2026 at the Schoenbrunn Moravian Church located at 2200 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia 44663. A dinner is to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tamara’s name may be made to the church.

Rosemary Annette Jackson

Rosemary Annette Jackson,

age 84, passed away Saturday April 4, 2026, in Hennis Care Center of Bolivar. She was born on December 5, 1941, in Canton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Oscar and Elsie (Wiezbiski) Pomesky. Rosemary was a lifelong resident of Waynesburg and lifetime member of Saint James Catholic Church where she was an organist for over 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Jr, and her granddaughter Eleanor Elizabeth Jackson. She is survived by two daughters, Diane Longstreth, and Jeannie Jackson; one son Mark Jackson and her daughter-in-law Jaime Jackson; one brother Robert Pomesky, five grandchildren: Scott, Emma, Hailey, Lillian, and Gabriel Jackson and three great grandchildren AJ and Ashton Pierson and Aubriana Jackson.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, April 12 from 4 to 6pm in Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 13 at 11:00am at Saint James Catholic Church in Waynesburg with Father Fritz Schlueter as Celebrant. Joseph I.C. Blackburn,

Age 86, of Magnolia, passed away Sat., Apr. 4, 2026. He was born Aug. 31, 1939, in Canton, a son of the late Joseph and Leah (McNutt) Blackburn. Joseph served with the U.S Army and retired from Green Lines as a truck driver. Preceded in death by his sister, JoAnne Miller, and his brother, Quinton Blackburn. Survived by his wife, Shirley Blackburn; his daughters, Lisa (Loren) Gintz, and her children, Brenden (Ashley) Gintz and their son, Maverick, Treyton (Chloe Craig) Gintz, and Brittani (Kevin) Flory and their children Riley and Lucy; and Beth Moron-Villareal, and her children, Alec Blackburn, Jordan Hurtado, and Mayara, Miguel and Angel Moron-Villareal; five sisters, Margaret Miller, Helen Hall, Katherine McDaniel, Rose Wilson and Ruth Perry; and two brothers, David Blackburn and Daniel Blackburn. Evelyn Johnstone

Evelyn M. Johnstone

Evelyn (May) Johnstone, 96, passed away March 8, 2026, after a brief illness. Born July 13, 1929, in Lindentree, OH, she was a daughter of Lloyd Clark Sr. and Nelson and Leona (Clough) VanMeter. As a professional beautician, she owned and operated E.J. Beauty Shop for 17 years prior to retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 72 years, Glen Johnstone; her sister Linda Giannelli; and two brothers, Thomas, and Robert Clark. She is survived by her brother Lloyd Clark Jr., numerous nieces and nephews. Close friends, family, and neighbors were also impacted by Evelyn’s steady warmth and companionship.

She is fondly remembered for her service to her community and family. A member of the American Legion Post #244 Auxiliary in East Sparta and Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Sandyville, she volunteered at countless dinners on their behalf, and amassed a large collection of church cookbooks. Her family was nurtured by her baking (notably her “bits of brickle” cookies), vegetable gardening, and her willingness to style their hair. Most of all, she was a reliable and caring presence in their lives, inspiring a love of service to others.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia, with interment at Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. Friends may call one hour before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to Stark County (Ohio) Library, or to the Aultman Hospice and Compassionate Care Center in Canton. Mary Hartzell

Mary K. Hartzell,

Age 101, of East Sparta, Ohio, passed away Sat., Mar. 21, 2026, just one day shy of her 102nd birthday. She was born Mar. 22, 1924, in East Sparta, daughter of the late Chris and Lottie (Bowman) Neading. Mary was a 1942 Graduate of Timken Vocational High School. She was a member of East Sparta Christian Church, the East Sparta Women’s Club, Pike Township Historical Society, and retired from Walsh Chevrolet in East Sparta. Mary was one of a kind. She always saw the good in people, never met a stranger, was an avid crocheter, and known for her fashion sense. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, Donald Hartzell, and her three brothers, Bob, Sonny, and Don Neading. Mary is survived by her two sons Daniel (Shirley) Hartzell of Canton and Bruce (Katie) Hartzell of East Sparta, two granddaughters, Allison (Tony) Dearing of Fort Worth, Texas, Ashley (Matt) Andrews of North Canton, and great grandchildren, Brooke Dearing, Peyton Dearing, Kyle Andrews and Brett Andrews.
