Thanksgiving is all about indulging in your favorite dishes—turkey, pie, and of course, stuffing! 😋 After enjoying the feast, don’t forget to brush and floss. Brushing removes surface food and plaque, while flossing gets in between your teeth where brushes can’t reach—protecting your smile from cavities and gum disease.

Eat, enjoy, and then brush and floss—your teeth will thank you!

The Mahomet-Seymour boys’ cross-country team is recognized this week for their remarkable achievement as the Class 2A state runner-up at Peoria’s Detweiller Park.

Under the guidance of coach Andrew Walmer, the Bulldogs executed a disciplined strategy focused on pacing and teamwork. Senior Henry McMurry led the charge, capturing All-State honors with a personal-best time of 14:41.34—the fourth-fastest 3-mile in school history. Mahomet-Seymour’s top five runners—McMurry, Adam Smigielski, Auggie Gaudio, Tate Bode, and Tayten Gergen—crossed the first mile within two seconds of each other.

Sophomore Adam Smigielski posted a historic 14:48.65, the fastest 3-mile ever run by a Mahomet-Seymour sophomore. Juniors and sophomores stepped up, with Bode, Gaudio, and Gergen all posting personal-best or near-best performances, and Gaudio notably passing 23 runners in the final mile despite recent injuries.

This is Mahomet-Seymour's fifth state trophy in boys’ cross country over the past 12 years.

Even the best brushers can miss those tiny grooves in the back teeth where cavities love to hide—but that’s where sealants come to the rescue! 💪

Dental sealants act like invisible shields, covering the chewing surfaces of molars to block out bacteria and food particles. They’re quick, painless, and one of the easiest ways to protect your child’s smile from decay.

Because every superhero needs a sidekick—and for your child’s teeth, that sidekick is sealants!

Protein isn’t just for building muscles—it’s essential for a healthy mouth too! Proteins provide the building blocks your body needs to repair tissues, including your gums and the supporting structures around your teeth. They help strengthen enamel, support gum health, and aid in the healing of minor oral injuries. Incorporating protein-rich foods like eggs, lean meats, dairy, beans, and nuts into your diet can help keep your smile strong and resilient.

This Thanksgiving, don’t skip the creamy mashed potatoes, cheesy casseroles, or leafy greens—your teeth are grateful for them! Calcium helps strengthen tooth enamel, keeping your smile resilient against everyday wear and tear. Pair those calcium-rich sides with a little gratitude, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a happy, healthy smile this holiday season.

Not all toothpaste is created equal—especially when it comes to little smiles! For children under 3, use a tiny smear (about the size of a grain of rice) of fluoride toothpaste. For ages 3 and up, a pea-sized amount is perfect. Look for a toothpaste with fluoride to help strengthen enamel and prevent cavities, and pick a flavor your child enjoys—it makes brushing time way more fun! 🎉

Most importantly, make brushing a family routine so your child learns that caring for their teeth is something to smile about every day.

The Mahomet-Seymour girls’ swim team earned Athlete of the Week honors after a historic victory at the sectional championship on November 8 at Centennial High School. In dramatic fashion, the Bulldogs overcame a three-point deficit in the final event—the 400-yard freestyle relay—clinching the school’s first-ever sectional title and setting a new pool record that had stood for 24 years.

Senior Talynn O’Donnell, Caroline Mills, Karsyn Johnson, and Raegan O’Donnell powered the decisive relay, finishing in 3:33.93, securing both the championship and a place in the record books.

Junior Aubrey Meints won the diving event with a school-record 421.30 points while teammate Bella Almaroad took third with her personal best, 382.10. Talynn O’Donnell broke two individual school records: 2:06.42 in the 200-yard individual medley and 51.40 in the 100-yard freestyle. Sophomore Raegan O’Donnell set a new mark in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:05.76. The 200-yard freestyle relay team also set a school record with a time of 1:36.51.

The Bulldogs will now compete at the state meet in a record seven events.

Your mouth is home to billions of bacteria—some helpful, some harmful. Fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, and sauerkraut are rich in probiotics that support the good bacteria in your oral microbiome. These friendly microbes help reduce inflammation, balance pH levels, and protect against cavities and gum disease. So the next time you grab a snack, reach for something that makes both your gut and your smile happy!
