If your gums bleed when you brush or floss, it could be gingivitis—the earliest stage of gum disease. Gingivitis is caused by plaque buildup and inflammation in the gums, and if left untreated, it can progress to more serious oral and overall health issues.

✨ Signs of gingivitis include:
• Red, swollen, or tender gums
• Bleeding when brushing or flossing
• Bad breath that won’t go away

The good news? Gingivitis is reversible when caught early. At Mahomet Family Dentistry, our team focuses on prevention, education, and gentle care to help keep your gums healthy and your smile strong.

Snow days may slow everything down—but your flossing routine shouldn’t stop. Just like plowing through snow keeps roads clear, flossing clears out plaque and food particles your toothbrush can’t reach.

🦷 Why floss daily?
• Helps prevent cavities between teeth
• Protects your gums from inflammation
• Keeps your breath fresh all winter long

At Mahomet Family Dentistry, we know small daily habits make a big difference. So even if you’re bundled up inside, grab that floss and keep your smile on track.

Stay warm. Keep flossing. Smile bright all season.

Your toothbrush only cleans about 60% of your tooth’s surface. That means 40% goes untouched—and that’s where plaque, bacteria, and cavities love to hide! 😬

Flossing daily reaches those hidden areas between your teeth, keeping your gums healthy and your smile sparkling. Don’t let plaque win—floss it out!

Through the first eight games, junior forward Hannah Martin has quietly become the heartbeat of Mahomet-Seymour’s 5-3 start, impacting games as a scorer, rebounder, and defensive disruptor. While several Bulldogs have delivered big nights, Martin’s consistency across multiple stat lines makes her the clear choice for Mahomet-Seymour Athlete of the Week.
Martin’s breakout performance came in the Turkey Tip-Off win over Prairie Central, where she led the Bulldogs with 12 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two assists in a 53-38 victory that pushed the early-season win streak to three. She followed that up with another all-tournament showing, helping Mahomet-Seymour earn second place at the Bank of Pontiac Turkey Tip-Off and securing a spot on the all-tournament team alongside teammates Penelope Bird and Courtney Fonte.
In the home loss to Metamora, Martin still found ways to contribute, tying for the team lead with nine points and adding a team-best five rebounds in a 50-39 setback that dropped the Bulldogs to 3-2.
When Apollo Conference play opened against Charleston, Martin again set the tone in a 65-28 statement win. She scored 10 points and was a defensive menace, piling up six steals as the Bulldogs snapped a two-game skid and reestablished momentum to move to 4-2.
A few days later against Taylorville, Martin delivered one of her most complete efforts of the season in a 61-37 win that lifted Mahomet-Seymour to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. She finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, again filling every column of the box score while the Bulldogs knocked down nine three-pointers as a team.
Even against top-ranked Peoria Notre Dame on December 9, Martin made her presence felt with seven points as the Bulldogs battled the state’s No. 1 team for four quarters.
Mahomet-Seymour girls basketball travels to Mattoon tonight for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off against the Greenwave in a key Apollo Conference matchup.

Brushing your teeth twice a day is one of the simplest ways to protect your health. 🦷✨

Why it matters:

Prevents cavities & tooth decay – Plaque buildup can eat away at your enamel.

Fights gum disease – Healthy gums mean a healthier body overall.

Freshens breath – Nobody wants a “morning dragon” in their mouth! 😁

Supports overall health – Poor oral health is linked to heart disease, diabetes, and more.

Make brushing a daily habit—two minutes, two times a day!
