When stress activates the body’s “fight or flight” response, it increases muscle tension throughout the body—including the jaw. Many people unconsciously clench their jaw when stressed, both during the day and while asleep. Over time, this tension can cause soreness, stiffness, and pain in the jaw and facial muscles, often leading to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Managing Stress for Better Oral Health
Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, yoga, or mindfulness to reduce muscle tension.

Use a custom nightguard if you grind your teeth during sleep.

Maintain consistent oral hygiene—brushing twice daily, flossing, and visiting your dentist regularly.

Prioritize sleep and hydration to keep your immune system and oral tissues healthy.

Chronic stress shows up not only in the mind and body but also in the jaw and smile. Recognizing the signs early—and addressing both stress and dental symptoms—can prevent long-term damage and preserve oral health.

Your child’s first teeth do so much more than make their smile adorable!

Baby teeth, also called primary teeth, are essential for a child’s health and development because they serve as the foundation for lifelong oral and overall well-being. Even though they eventually fall out, they perform several critical functions that affect nutrition, speech, jaw development, and future dental health.

Support Proper Chewing and Nutrition
Baby teeth allow children to chew food effectively, promoting good digestion and balanced nutrition. A child who can chew comfortably is more likely to eat a variety of healthy foods, supporting overall growth and immune function.

Aid in Speech Development
These teeth play a key role in helping children form clear sounds and learn to speak properly. Missing or decayed baby teeth can interfere with speech patterns and pronunciation, potentially delaying language development.

Preserve Space for Adult Teeth
Baby teeth act as natural spacers for permanent teeth waiting to emerge beneath them. If a baby tooth is lost too early due to decay or injury, nearby teeth may drift into the open space, leading to crowding or misalignment of the adult teeth. This can require costly orthodontic treatment later on.

Contribute to Jaw and Facial Development
Healthy baby teeth guide the growth of the jawbone and ensure that the face develops in proper proportion. They help support natural bite alignment, which affects chewing efficiency and facial balance.

👶💙 Healthy baby teeth = a confident, healthy smile for years to come!

Adella Bird and Haley Reed have become the first doubles team from Mahomet-Seymour to claim a sectional title, leading to a State appearance.

At the state finals, Bird and Reed showcased their skill and grit from the very first serve. Their opening match saw them dominate Aurora Central Catholic with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win, which they followed up by dispatching Chicago University by the same scoreline. Their winning momentum carried them into the Sweet 16, where they faced the formidable Deerfield team—eventually falling to one of the tournament’s top seeds.

Moving into the consolation bracket on Friday, the duo displayed unwavering determination. A tight victory over Dunlap (7-5, 7-5) paved the way for an emotional face-off against the regular season’s top-ranked pair from Maroa-Forsyth. Bird and Reed battled through a challenging start, regrouped, and pulled off a dramatic comeback, securing the win in a third-set tiebreak (1-6, 6-4, 10-7).

After the thrilling win over Maroa-Forsyth, Bird and Reed continued to fight, taking on Woodstock Marian in the consolation quarterfinals. Despite a hard-fought effort in a tightly contested match (4-6, 5-7), their impressive tournament run came to an end.

What’s scarier than ghosts and goblins? Cavities caused by too many Halloween sweets! 😱🦷

When sticky candies like caramels, gummies, and taffy cling to your teeth, they feed the bacteria that create acid—and that acid starts to eat away at your enamel. Over time, tiny holes (aka cavities) form… and that’s the stuff of the Tooth Fairy’s nightmares! 👻

But don’t worry—you can keep her happy:
✨ Enjoy candy in moderation
💧 Rinse or drink water after sweets
🪥 Brush and floss before bed (no skipping!)

Protect your pearly whites and keep the Tooth Fairy smiling—not screaming! 😁🧚‍♀️

Halloween is the season for sweets, but those sneaky sugar bugs are always on the hunt for leftover candy stuck to your teeth! 🍭🪥

Here’s how to keep your smile safe this spooky season:

🎃 1. Choose wisely. Chocolate melts quickly and washes away easier than sticky or hard candies.
💧 2. Rinse after snacking. Water helps flush away sugar and acids.
🕐 3. Time it right. Enjoy candy with meals—your mouth produces more saliva to protect enamel.
🪥 4. Brush before bed. Don’t let those cavity creatures party overnight!

Keep your fangs frightfully clean and your smile boo-tiful all Halloween long!

Auggie Gaudio has been a consistent force for the Mahomet-Seymour Boys Cross Country team this season, and his performance at the Apollo Conference Championship solidified his status as one of the program’s top runners. With a second-place individual finish in a time of 15:07, Gaudio led the Bulldogs to a team victory, securing the conference title with just 20 points—their seventh since joining the Apollo Conference in 2017.

Gaudio’s 15:07 clocking was the fastest among MSHS scorers and marked the 7th-fastest senior time ever recorded by a Mahomet-Seymour runner at the Apollo meet. That time also moved him into the 13th-fastest senior in school history on any 3-mile course, a testament to his development and consistency.

At the Metamora Runnin’ Red Invitational, he placed 11th with a 15:13, the 10th-fastest senior time ever at that meet, helping MSHS capture first place in a stacked 28-team field. Earlier in the season at the Springfield Lanphier Invitational, he finished fourth overall with a 16:12, contributing to another team title.

At the Peoria Notre Dame Richard Spring Invitational, Gaudio clocked a 15:20 to finish 72nd out of 577 runners—his 7th-fastest senior time ever. The effort helped Mahomet-Seymour earn a 14th-place team finish, their best since 2021.

Earlier in the season at Springfield’s Lee Halberg Invitational at Lincoln Park, Gaudio took 4th place overall with a time of 16:12, contributing to the Bulldogs’ first team title at that event since 2021 and marking the 15th-fastest senior time in program history on that course.

With the Regional Meet set for Saturday, October 25th in Olney, Gaudio and the Bulldogs are peaking at the right time. If his recent performances are any indication, he’ll be a name to watch deep into the postseason.
