- Button batteries: Found in remotes, toys, watches, hearing aids, key fobs, calculators, etc.
Time is critical. Even one swallowed battery can cause severe internal burns and tissue damage in as little as 15 minutes to 2 hours.
- Magnets: If more than one is swallowed, they can attract inside the intestines and cause life-threatening injury.
- Small toys & toy parts: Follow age recommendations and check floors often, especially if older siblings are in the home.
- Food hazards:�• Cut grapes and cherry tomatoes (anything round) into quarters.�• Avoid whole nuts and popcorn for young children (wait at least until 4-5 years of age).�• Cut hot dogs lengthwise, then into small pieces.�• Spread peanut butter thinly (not in spoonfuls).
Toddlers should sit while eating.
Supervise during meals, choking is silent.
