This story brings me to tears of absolute joy. It strengthens my belief in my birth philosophy which, thanks to my doula trainer and mentor, is a broad spectrum approach to labor and delivery and accepting the multi-faceted birth outcomes. No matter what birth you have in the end, we have to accept that this is the way your baby came into the world. I'm grateful that I became a doula during this transition of many hospital standards to encourage rooming-in and skin-to-skin contact with the newborn. The goal is simple, the techniques easy. Let the mother see her baby being born, if she wants to, and give her the baby immediately following the birth, so they can bond before the baby is taken away.

As I sit here at Brigham & Women's waiting to be called upstairs to attend another beautiful birth, I can't help but read silly doula articles and laugh. Is that strange that I feel a lot better about what I do after reading nonsense like this? 😊
