Happy Valentine’s Day to my favorite travel partner and partner in crime! They say love is brewed to perfection, and I’m pretty sure we’ve got the recipe down pat. Day 2: Santa Rosa NM to Hannibal MO
Driving time: 15 hours
States crossed: NM-TX-OK-KS-MO
Daily KMs: 1427.3

Highlights: Started the day with light flurries in NM quickly turning to a full blizzard and I-40 E closures forced a diversion onto Ian’s alternative route, angling us N-E on byways through corner of west Texas and tens of thousands of cattle, cutting across the Oklahoma panhandle before spending most of the day driving through Kansas. Our ugly Christmas sweaters made an appearance for some holiday cheer (and weird looks from fellow travelers) and Ian stretched my 30 minute shift to 4 hours. He bamboozled me! Once again, listened to a lot of great tunes ( included) and finished the day with podcasts featuring Keanu, Bono, David Spade and Wayne Gretzky for an extra boost of laughter to get us through. Thanks ! We arrived at hotel by 1am (but 11 PST) where Archie was happy to run around and have a little play time!

Other things of note: cheap gas was well received by Ian and our thirsty Landrover, shortbread were enjoyed, a minor nosebleed occurred, Archie denied at Holiday Inn at 1am!

Overall, it was a really fun day with ! I wouldn’t want to be doing this with anyone else. 🫶

Day 1: Barstow CA to Santa Rosa NM
Driving time: 12 hours
States crossed: CA - AZ - NM
Daily Kms: 1286

Although we drove 2 hours on Thursday, I’m counting this as our first official day of driving to Canada for an extended holiday visit.

Highlights today include crossing the beautiful Colorado River, crossing the Arizona divide at 7,335ft which is also where we saw our first snow, the beautiful Arizona sky/sunset, amazing tunes by DJ Jules and emotional support from one very well behaved Archikins! Oh and major arguments so far = zero. .

Farewell Heathercliff Drive. Thank you for the memories — long morning walks on little dume beach, warms fires on cool nights, hosting friends from out of town, lovely neighbors who are now friends and a safe place during the pandemic. I’ll never forget our time here, our home away from home. I learned to really slow down here and enjoy the quiet and very special beach life which I look forward to continuing 10 minutes up the road!

Five years ago today, and I took a leap of faith and landed in California, ready to embrace the unknown together. It’s been a whirlwind of emotions, from the exhilarating highs to the challenging lows, but every twist and turn has shaped our story. I’m grateful for the personal growth, the deepening connection with my hubby, incredible new friends, and the chance to explore this beautiful state. From road trips, to beach walks, beautiful sunsets, and all the little moments that make this journey uniquely ours. And let’s not forget about finding our sweet Archie, who brought even more joy and love to our Cali adventure. Tonight we celebrate with yet another gorgeous sunset from our new beach that we’ll call home. Here’s to five years of California dreaming and many more chapters ahead.

1️⃣ Identify Existing Habits: Take a moment to reflect on your day and identify habits or routines that you already do consistently. It could be something as simple as making your morning coffee, brushing your teeth, or checking your phone. These are perfect starting points for habit stacking!

2️⃣ Choose Your Desired Habits: Now, think about the positive habits you want to add to your life. Maybe it's taking supplements, reading, exercising, practicing gratitude, or taking breaks for mindfulness. Select habits that align with your goals and are sustainable.

3️⃣ Create Habit Stacks: Here comes the fun part! Take your existing habits and pair them with your desired habits. For example, waiting for your coffee to brew 👉 takw a moment for gratitude, or while driving home from work 👉 listen to an audiobook.
