Sometimes, it’s the smallest findings that make the biggest difference.

Winston came to his primary veterinarian for a routine visit and dental planning—something many pets go through every year. During that visit, a heart murmur was detected. While Winston felt perfectly normal at home, his care team recommended a cardiology evaluation before moving forward with anesthesia.
That decision made all the difference. 🐾

At his cardiology visit, Winston was diagnosed with degenerative mitral valve disease, a common heart condition in dogs. Advanced imaging showed that while his heart was still pumping well, there were early structural changes—specifically enlargement of the left atrium and some valve leakage.

The good news? Winston is not in heart failure, and thanks to early detection, we were able to start medication to support his heart before more serious signs develop.
His family was also given simple but powerful tools to monitor him at homelike tracking his sleeping breathing rate to help catch any changes early.

Because of this proactive approach:
✨ Winston can safely move forward with his dental care
✨ His condition will be closely monitored over time
✨ And most importantly—he gets to keep living his happy, normal life at home

Winston’s story is a reminder that routine exams matter. A simple murmur, caught at the right time, can lead to early intervention and a much better long-term outcome.

We’re so proud to be part of Winston’s care team and to support him every step of the way. 🐶💙

Bingo, a 3-month-old Goldendoodle full of puppy energy, gave his family a scare when he suddenly wasn’t acting like himself.

It started with a single episode of vomiting after sneaking some cat food, and later that day, his family noticed something more concerning—he became lethargic, limp, and just not his usual playful self. While he briefly seemed to bounce back, things quickly took a turn. Bingo began limping, crying out in pain, and struggling to get comfortable.

Knowing something wasn’t right, his family brought him to our Emergency team right away

On exam, Bingo was bright but clearly uncomfortable, with pain localized to his front leg. Given his age and symptoms, we recommended X-rays to rule out fractures or developmental bone conditions that can affect growing puppies. The good news—no obvious fractures were seen!

Bingo received pain relief in the hospital and went home with medications to keep him comfortable while he heals. Because young, growing dogs can sometimes develop conditions that don’t immediately show up on imaging, his family was advised to monitor closely and follow up if he didn’t continue improving.
✨Bingo’s story is a great reminder that even subtle changes—like limping, low energy, or unusual behavior—can be signs that something bigger is going on.

We’re so glad his family trusted their instincts and got him the care he needed. Here’s to a speedy recovery and getting back to what puppies do best—playing, exploring, and keeping their families on their toes!

Meet Wilcox, a 13-year-old Labrador Retriever and dedicated service dog who reminds us every day what resilience looks like.

After experiencing some breathing challenges last year, Wilcox underwent a specialized airway procedure to help him breathe more comfortably. Thanks to his care team and devoted family, he made a great recovery—getting back to the things he loves most, including helping around the house and returning to activity 💪

A big part of Wilcox’s progress has been his work with our rehabilitation team, where he’s been regularly seen to support his strength, mobility, and overall comfort. With their help, he’s been able to safely get back to physical therapy and continue doing the things that give him purpose.

Over the following months, Wilcox continued to improve, with fewer coughing episodes and a steady return to his normal routine. His bright spirit never wavered, and he remained a devoted companion to his family.

More recently, Wilcox had a brief health scare that brought him to our emergency team for evaluation. With his history in mind, he received prompt care and attention to ensure he stays on the right track.

✨ Wilcox’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of collaborative care, early intervention, and the incredible bond between pets and their people.

When Stewie, a sweet 7-year-old Dachshund, first came to us back in 2021, his world had suddenly changed. After a painful episode at home, he was struggling to move comfortably, and despite medications and rest, his pain only worsened. Advanced imaging confirmed a cervical intervertebral disc extrusion, and Stewie underwent surgery to help relieve the pressure on his spine.

With time, dedicated care, and the help of ongoing acupuncture and rehabilitation, Stewie bounced back—returning to his happy, playful self.

Fast forward to 2025, now 11 years young, Stewie faced another setback. His family noticed stiffness, a lowered head, and eventually difficulty walking. Given his history, they acted quickly, and our neurology team stepped in. Stewie underwent another surgery to address a new disc issue in his neck.

And just like before—he showed us what resilience really looks like. Within weeks, Stewie was more comfortable, regaining mobility, and by his one-month recheck, he was back to doing what he loves most: enjoying life at home with his family.

But Stewie’s journey didn’t stop there. Later that year, he bravely tackled an episode of pancreatitis and even a newly discovered splenic mass. With close monitoring and supportive care, he continued to fight forward with the same determination we’ve come to admire.

Most recently, at 12 years old, Stewie returned to us for early signs of another pancreatitis flare. Thanks to his family recognizing the signs quickly and seeking care right away, we were able to intervene early and keep him comfortable.

Meet Pete, a sweet 9‑year‑old Pitbull mix who recently faced one of the toughest challenges of his life. After having a mast cell tumor removed, Pete developed severe complications that led to infected, dehisced surgical incisions. His family rushed him to VRC, worried, exhausted, and desperately wanting him to feel better.

Over the next six days, Pete’s care team worked around the clock—managing infection, performing multiple wound repairs, monitoring lab work, controlling discomfort, and supporting him through each small step forward. From daily bandage changes to wound revisions and careful monitoring of his bilirubin, blood pressure, appetite, and healing, Pete proved to be a fighter from start to finish.
But it wasn’t just medical care that got him through—it was the love behind him.

His family sent us this message after he finally started turning the corner:

“Pete is doing so much better than when he first came in to VRC! We are so grateful for the staff’s expertise in caring for him for the 6 days he was hospitalized. We were updated multiple times a day on how he was doing, and we truly felt that the staff cared about him almost as much as we do! What was a tough patch for Pete and our family was made easier by the care & consideration offered by VRC. One of Pete’s favorite things to do is go on hikes, and when he was so sick I promised him if he kept fighting & got better that we had so many spring hikes ahead of us! We are looking forward to keeping that promise thanks to VRC!”

Today, Pete is back on his paws—eating, healing, and getting closer to those spring hikes every day. 🌱❤️

We’re honored to have been part of his journey and so proud of the resilience this boy has shown. Here’s to brighter days ahead, Pete!
