Allow me to reintroduce myself.

In the Western world, my name is Lauren N. Perez.
In the spiritual world, my name is Tanama.
In the most sacred world I have ever entered...
my name is Mama.

I went quiet. Not because I disappeared... but because I went in.

I stepped away to birth a life. In doing so, I found myself being birthed too.

Postpartum is not a chapter they prepare you for. It is a dismantling. A descent. A slow and sometimes terrifying return to yourself... if you are lucky enough to find your way back.

I was lucky. It was not easy. I carried that quietly for a long time.

I did not walk through it alone.

A fierce village of spirit family showed up when I could not show up for myself. They held me when I forgot how to hold me. They sat in the dark with me and did not flinch. They fed me, prayed over me, reminded me who I was until I could remember on my own.

I know what it means to be carried.
I know what it costs when that carrying is absent.
That knowing is my medicine now.

We were never meant to heal alone.

Motherhood showed me what becomes possible when the village shows up.

I came through held by spirit, by my daughter's laugh, by the ancestors, by those who loved me fiercely enough to stay. Now I am ready to offer that holding to you.

This is the village.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Reiki Master, Healing Circle Facilitator... a woman who has been through it and came out with medicine to share.

There is so much that lives inside of motherhood. Love, expansion, tenderness… and also grief, pressure, exhaustion, and change.

Some of it we speak about. Much of it we carry quietly.

This Mother's Day, we will create a space that holds all of it. Not just the beautiful parts… Not just the hard parts… The full spectrum of being a mother.

Through nourishing tea, meditation, reflection, Reiki, and ritual, you will be gently guided to release what has been held, reconnect with yourself, and be supported in community.

You will also receive flowers from our shared altar to take home — a living reminder of your intention.

This is not a space where you have to explain, perform, or hold it all together. If you've been holding a lot on your own, you don't have to do that here.

This is the village. Come as you are.

Still reeling from the power felt this weekend at the National Association for Puerto Rican and Hispanic Social Workers conference! It was such a dynamic day of discussing racial disparities in social work, as well as ways to remain resilient and challenge the systems that continue to affect people of color in the mental health field.

I felt the ancestors in the room watching a fruitful discussion amongst colleagues about how we can honor and respect not only our clients’ sovereignty, but also their spiritual gifts within “pathology first” framework.

I have so many ideas in my mind to birth after being inspired by this event.

I’m particularly proud of myself because as a mama raising an awesome toddler, I have two days per week right now to run a practice and all of my other projects and still made this happen. These are the stories I get to tell my daughter. These are the legacies we can leave for our communities.

I’m so grateful for Spirit’s constant whisper in my ear and for getting to be of service as this medicine’s vessel.

We are SO excited to announce that Divine Flow Healing has entered into a partnership with the Chamberlain University School of Social Work! We have just become a site for practicum students on their learning journey.

We look forward to embarking on this new relationship with the University and the future colleagues we will both teach and learn from.

We are super excited to announce that we will be presenting at the 2023 annual FreeHer Conference in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico!

FreeHer is an annual conference hosted by the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls. This year’s theme is focused on healing and learning healing methods for self-care and recovery of trauma. The National Council provides several hundred yearly scholarships for women to attend these workshops, even flying women in from out of the country when possible. It’s going to be a powerful one!

We can’t wait to see you in Borikén! Pa’lante!
