Be safe, Mammoth!

Buckle up kids, the storm is here! It's snowin and blowin, with over a foot of snow so far today. More feet of snow coming tonight and tomorrow. Chain controls are in effect (check road conditions at roads.dot.ca.gov), with no promises the roads will stay open. So make good decisions (carry brains!), and stay safe and warm.

Heads up, everyone — a winter storm is moving in late this holiday weekend and will impact much of next week.

Bluebird weather won’t last. It may be easy to get here, but getting home Monday evening could be a different story

The biggest storm we have seen since Christmas is taking aim at the region at the end of the holiday weekend, through much of next week. Blue Bird conditions will rapidly deteriorate at the end of the Holiday weekend and while it will be easy to make it here, will you be able to make it home Monday evening?

❤️Love Better Mammoth🏔️

This Heart Health Month and Teen Dating Violence Prevention Month, Elevate is honored to partner with One Love Foundation for our free, community wellness event, Love Better Mammoth.

One Love Foundation is a national non-profit with the goal of ending relationship abuse. One Love Foundation brings life-saving prevention education to communities and empowers young people with tools and resources to see the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships.

In addition to engaging students ages 11–18 in conversations about healthy relationship behaviors, respect, and recognizing warning signs during in-school workshops at Mammoth Middle School and Mammoth High School, One Love Foundation CEO Julie Myers will lead a conversation for young adults and trusted adults at our evening event on the 11th.

Trusted adults are often the first to notice when something feels off in a young person’s relationship. Parents, coaches, teachers, coworkers, supervisors, neighbors, and friends all play an important role in helping young people recognize healthy patterns, set boundaries, and seek support when they need it.

Sponsored by Mammoth Hospital, this event will also include community resource partners sharing supportive services and information.

We’re excited to welcome Katherine Fritz, PA-C to our team! Katherine is a Board-Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA) with a strong background in emergency and urgent care medicine, and a passion for serving rural communities.

Katherine earned her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland (2017–2019), where she graduated with honors and was recognized as part of the Rural Scholar Track. She completed her undergraduate studies at Grove City College in Pennsylvania (2006–2010), graduating magna cm laude with high honors in psychology, and was also named a Maryland Distinguished Scholar.

Her career began in the emergency departments of two rural Washington hospitals, followed by experience in a high-volume urgent care clinic in Portland, making her a wonderful addition to our patient care team.

Originally from rural Maryland, Katherine’s path has been shaped by both medicine and the outdoors. After college, she moved to the mountains of Colorado, where she worked as an instructor for the Colorado Outward Bound School and as an EMT.

Katherine is excited to officially call the Eastern Sierra and Mammoth home, an area she has loved for many years. When she is not working, she can usually be found rock climbing, skiing, trail running, fly fishing, or learning to sew her own clothes. She loves exploring the mountains with her partner, Maarten, and at home she is rarely without the company of her three cats.

Please join us in giving Katherine a warm welcome. We’re so happy to have her here!

Mammoth Lakes, California –January 23, 2026 – Following the announcement of his impending retirement, Southern Mono Healthcare District today announced that CEO Tom Parker will step down from the role of Chief Executive Officer, effective today.

“On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Tom for his leadership and contributions to Mammoth Hospital over the past 7+ years,” said Laurey Carlson, Chair of the Board. “Under his tenure, the organization has achieved unprecedented growth while embarking on the single largest expansion in the history of Mammoth Hospital. At a time when rural Healthcare facilities are struggling, Tom has overseen tremendous success, and we are forever grateful for his dedication and impact. “Tom Parker has designated Melanie Van Winkle, currently serving as Chief Financial Officer, as interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. We are honored to recognize Tricia Van Haeren as a Summit Award recipient for the extraordinary compassion and courage she brings to her work every day.

Last winter, during what could have been a routine clinical visit, Tricia chose to lead with empathy. When a patient shared that he was struggling with addiction, Tricia met him with honesty — sharing the story of her son, who she lost to an overdose. That moment of vulnerability stayed with him long after he left the hospital, becoming a quiet source of hope during his darkest days.

Months later, after entering treatment and committing fully to recovery, that same patient returned. He asked if Tricia was working — and when she came out, he placed a sobriety pin in her hand. Not the 30-day pin he once hoped to give her, but a 60-day pin, shared with tears and gratitude, marking 78 days clean.

That sobriety pin represents far more than time. It represents connection. Courage. And the profound impact one human moment can have on another life.

Tricia’s willingness to share her heart transformed grief into hope and pain into purpose. She embodies the very spirit of the Summit Award and the values of Mammoth Hospital.

Thank you, Tricia, for reminding us that compassion can save lives — and that sometimes, simply being willing to share your story can help someone begin theirs anew.

Mammoth Hospital CEO Tom Parker Announces Retirement Plans

Mammoth Lakes, CA — Mammoth Hospital announced today that Chief Executive Officer Tom Parker has informed the Board of Directors of his intention to retire later this year, effective October 2, 2026.

Mr. Parker has served as CEO of Mammoth Hospital for the past seven years, guiding the organization through a period of strategic growth, operational and financial stability, and continued commitment to high-quality patient care for the residents and guests of the Eastern Sierra.

“Last month, my wife, Kristen and I spent a week with our family during the holiday season, which gave us the opportunity to reflect on how we want to spend our time and the shrinking number of years ahead,” says Parker. “As a result of those conversations, we decided that I will retire this year, with a retirement date of October 2, 2026. Between now and then, I remain fully committed to advancing our strategic plans and my individual goals. I am committed to supporting a smooth transition to my successor and maintaining continuity for our patients, staff, and community partners.”

“Leading Mammoth Hospital has been an honor and privilege,” says Parker. “I am deeply grateful to the Board of Directors and to the dedicated clinicians, staff, managers, and executives who deliver compassionate, technically skilled, and highly satisfying care to our patients and community every day. Together, we have strengthened the hospital’s long-term viability and its role as an indispensable healthcare provider for the region.”

The Mammoth Hospital Board of Directors expresses its sincere appreciation for Tom’s leadership and years of service and will work closely with him on a succession plan.

Additional information regarding the CEO transition will be shared with hospital staff, community stakeholders, and the public as plans progress.
