I’ve worked with hundreds of women who are going through this “special” part of life

Here are three things that I find work best once we get past the basics of high quality nutrition, appropriate fitness, and assessing hormones/ gut microbiome

Black cohosh has good research that helps alleviate some of the associated symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats

Rhapontic rhubarb has been shown in the research to improve anxiety and depression that can be associated with hormone fluctuations in perimenopausal women

Valerian root is super helpful in sleep and doesn’t leave you waking up feeling groggy

Quick little life update since it’s been a hot sec since I’ve been consistent around here

Sammy Dobz is thriving over here - at 13 months old, she is constantly on the go and loves eating chicken, sweet potatoes and egg whites 🍠 and I love watching turn into the best momma in the whole world

As for me, Performing Nutrition continues to thrive - through our lifelong fat loss program, hormone and gut program and one off sessions, we’ve held over 1000 client sessions this year and numerous sessions where we help others with client care

Personally, I’ve recently been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Disease - if you don’t know what that is, it’s an autoimmune condition which my immune system attacks healthy thyroid hormone producing cells

For years I’ve felt as though I don’t have the same energy as others, had a tough time with weight loss (but I did it!), was cold all the time and workout recovery was always tough for me (my muscles / joints felt like I was 60)

it wasn’t until I advocated for myself with my own doctor over and over (I’ve had to find 3 new ones in the process) and personally paid for some lab work (I’m super fortunate with my medical credentials I can do this) to figure this out

looking back, I should’ve done it sooner, but such is life - special shout out to my own coach for pushing me to figure this stuff out and be more intentional about my recovery, workouts, and mindset

For now I’m managing everything through diet and lifestyle, no medication needed, and my goal is to put this disease into remission as much as possible - more to come

So, while my nutrition, household products, recovery, stress management and workouts may look a little bit different nowadays not much else is changing

I know there’s a lot of you out there that struggle with this condition as well. I’d love to hear any tips you have if you’re comfortable sharing!

Client spotlight

Meet Kari

Kari came to Performing Nutrition earlier this year

She was feeling a bit stuck

See Kari has always been super regimented in her exercise

She did everything right

Lifted weights

Hit spin class a few times a week

And even got her steps in

She felt as though she ate well

But never had weight issues

Until she did

She tried many diets such as restricting all carbs

Putting butter in her coffee

But the weight crept on over a few years

Fast forward

Taking a look through her bloodwork, habits and lifestyle, we made some changes

We started Kari focusing on complex carbs, recovering with lean protein, and ensuring her fat sources were healthy to support her hormones and blood sugar regulation

Prioritized strength training

Added in some other movement she enjoyed

Adjusted her sleep

And Kari shaved 25 lbs on the scale

Dropped a significant amount of body fat (defff more than 25 pounds on the scale)

And gained loads of muscle

You see Kari still wants to get more toned

But in a short 24 weeks, she changed her entire life

And can feel good in her clothes, not to mention needed to get a whole new wardrobe 💪

It’s been a month, so I figured I’d pop on here and say hi!

This past month has been one of the busiest in my life

Working with 30 one on one clients and nutritionists keeps me busy but is so rewarding to see them getting super healthy and hitting their goals day in and day out

Preparing for a baby with is no joke - I’m sure all the parents out there can tell me the fun is yet to come 😅

And finally having the opportunity to impact thousands more, by putting together two (very very) in depth nutrition programs with 100 modules and almost 20 hours of education for has been such a great experience

Who else is ready for September to roll around?

Believe it or not, I’ve got a few more one on one spots open, but filling up fast!

I can’t tell you how many clients come to me ready to “dive off a diet ledge”

They are used to seeing ads on tv that say lose 30 lbs in 30 days

But the problem is that requires minimal food for a short period of time

And sure, less food will make you drop water weight, drop food weight, drop muscle and drop some body fat

But guess what happens when you start eating again (even if it’s healthy food)

Yeah you guessed it

Look I get it

I used to be focused on the short-term game

dropping a lot of weight quickly

only to not develop habits to make it sustainable

if you’re just starting out on your fat loss journey

all you really need to do is focus on whole nourishing foods

get some activity in even if that’s walking

Get some sleep so you have energy through the day

And eat enough to manage your stress and stay consistent

sounds easy doesn’t it?

I have tough days too, Believe it or not

What you see on socials is generally not exactly what others are going through

I can’t tell you how many times my clients feel as though they are alone:

The only one struggling with body image

The only one who is in a groove then overeats for a whole weekend

The only one that can gain 5 lbs overnight and then takes 5 days to come back down

Well I’m here to tell you, all of that is normal

I too Sometimes wake up 5 lbs heavier for no apparent reason

I too have days where it’s tough to run my own business

I too some days have to remind myself to thank my body for what it can do versus what it can’t

But at the end of the day, the important thing to do is take a step back

Are you focusing on the right things
- eating more fruits, veggies and lean protein than less
- getting movement you enjoy in each day
- managing your stress
- maintaining a positive mindset

Because you’ve only got one chance at this thing

And even if you feel like you’ve messed it up

You’re one step away from getting it all back together

Is this you?

Sitting there

Saying, wow… yeah

Week 1 I lost a couple pounds

Week 2, 3, 4, nice and steady weight loss

Then I hit a snag

“Something must be wrong with me”

Look, I get it

I too have times where I am trying to drop a few lbs

And I get caught up in the weekly drops

But at the end of the day

You MUST look at it holistically

There will be weeks of major weight loss

There will be weeks of no weight loss

But if you can 100% say to yourself

I did everything right

Hit the right types of foods, in the right quantities for 90% of the time

Sometimes it just takes the scale some time to catch up

Keep swimming 😎

Bout to head out for an amazing 10 day vacation with and some great friends

But quick update on loose skin surgery

8 weeks post op

I’ve gotten in about 5 3 or 4 workouts and still combating fatigue, swelling and a small case of Co*id

But I’m gonna keep swimming

Rebuilding Building brick by brick

Focusing on the long term versus short term

Because like any journey

It takes time

I’m impatient

Like everyone else

But I can’t stop

I can’t give up

Because deep down I know

Every good thing takes work and consistency

Not a simple quick fix

See you soon Spain!

And everyone else, See you in two weeks!
