🌟 Monday — Benjamin D. Pearse 🌟
President of the Township Committee | 1867

As we continue celebrating Wall Township’s 175th Anniversary, this week’s Mayor Monday highlights Benjamin D. Pearse, who served as President of the Township Committee in 1867.

In the early years of Wall Township government, the title “President of the Committee” or “Moderator of the Day” was used for the individual presiding over Township Committee meetings — a role similar to what we recognize today as Mayor. These early leaders helped guide the Township through its formative years as the community grew and established its civic institutions.

Benjamin D. Pearse was not new to public service when he assumed this leadership role. In fact, he had already been involved in Wall Township government from the very beginning. Pearse was one of the three original committeemen selected during Wall Township’s first Township Committee meeting in March of 1851, alongside James L. Allgor and Samuel L. Allen.

His continued service in 1867 reflects the dedication of the early residents who helped build the foundation of local government in Wall Township. These community leaders worked to manage Township finances, maintain roads, support schools, and oversee the basic services needed for a growing agricultural community.

As we look back 175 years later, it’s clear that the commitment of individuals like Benjamin D. Pearse helped establish the strong civic structure that continues to guide Wall Township today.

❤️ History & Heart. Always.

Blessed are you, spring. You invite us to sing songs to the frozen regions within and to bless the lessons of winter as we become your partner in a new dance.

Grief can show up in places we don’t always expect. One of those places is how we use money.

After a deep loss, the mind is searching for relief from emotional pain. Sometimes that relief shows up through small purchases or experiences that bring a brief sense of comfort or distraction. For a moment, the heaviness lifts and the mind gets a break from the constant ache of grief.

This does not mean someone is careless or irresponsible. Often it means they are hurting and trying to soothe themselves in the ways that feel available at the time.

Talking about the connection between grief and spending can help remove shame and bring more awareness to how we care for ourselves during loss. Compassion for yourself is part of the healing.

Have you ever noticed grief affecting the way you spend or think about money?

Thank you for the promise of spring, for the warming air, for the extra hour of light that we’ll get after supper tonight, making us feel briefly invincible.

"While I am asking God how I should observe an upcoming Lenten season, I may remember where I spiritually was during Lent the previous year and reflect on what has changed and what has stayed the same. I hear and read the familiar stories about Jesus as he approached the cross and am reminded that while my circumstances change, the truths of the gospel remain the same."

Today we remember Fred Rogers and a life devoted to kindness, compassion, and care for children. Though he passed 23 years ago on February 27, 2003, his lessons continue to guide and comfort us every day.
