Pasture sampling is quick and results are of great value. It took less than 9 minutes to collect the sample, clip it into small pieces and package it. The results show low calcium and more than adequate phosphorus. Potassium is elevated but this is expected for early pasture. The custom formulated mineral mix is 23% calcium, 0% added phosphorus and 6% magnesium. Try to find a commercial sheep mineral that comes even close to what is required based on actual test results. Though I am probably 30 days from the start of grazing season, keep in mind the risk of grass tetany. This is caused by too little magnesium in your flock's diet. Here is a nice article. https://animalrangeextension.montana.edu/range/grazing-management/gm-grazing-alert.html
One simple approach is to have magnesium oxide (Mag Ox) added into your mineral or grain mix. This should be after a ration is balanced raising the magnesium levels in the total diet on a dry matter basis to 0.30 - 0.40%. One issue with mag ox is that it is not very palatable to sheep. Slow introduction into a mineral mix prior to grazing is beneficial. For more information you can contact me through my website www.bksheep.com

Water .... sometimes the most over looked "nutrient"! Clean containers go a long way in the health of your sheep. If the containers or automatic waterers are dirty your animals will drink less which can contribute to issues in growing and finishing lambs gaining slower.
