MYTH BUSTER: Once you go to a chiropractor you always have to go.
Despite being in practice for 34 years I still hear this comment often.
TRUTH: However long a patient chooses to benefit from care is ALWAYS their choice.
EVERYONE has a medical doctor, dentist, OBGYN, etc. but just because you have one of these providers doesn’t mean you HAVE to go. Patients CHOOSE to go. How often they go THEY get to choose.
Many of you reading this may have an annual physical, go to the dentist every 6 months for a cleaning and get your mammogram regularly.
Others reading this end up going only in crisis to see their physician or to their dentist when they have a severe toothache and need a root canal.
Some people change their oil regularly (before the light comes on or your car breaks down) and rotate their tires to maintain even wear. Some don’t.
Makes sense doesn’t it?
EVERYONE has a spine. It protects your nervous system that controls every function of the body. We know a spine that moves properly protects you from injury and stimulates your brain. It helps keep you active. Poor spinal alignment over time leads to spinal degeneration and all of the issues related to that.
If EVERYONE has a spine then EVERYONE needs a chiropractor! There are many types of chiropractic care to include: acute care, stabilization, maintenance and wellness care. The patient ALWAYS gets to decide what type of care fits their health goals and how often they go to the chiropractor.
History of injury, how long you’ve had the problem, occupation, lifestyle, risk factors such as degeneration, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, smoking, and how much a patient participates in their care (did they keep their scheduled appointments, use ice/heat, stretch, avoid playing golf) ALL impacts recovery and the need for care.
Bottom line: It’s a choice. Health and lifestyle goals are ALWAYS decided by the patient. Your Doctor of Chiropractic is part of your health care team and will give you their best recommendation to help you meet those goals.
Make it a great day!
