Seasonal Blues: What Can We Do? ❄🌨💙
As February continues to deal New Englanders wintry weather, our emotional wellbeing can be affected. Shorter days, colder weather, stressful driving, and less sunlight can bring on the seasonal blues and trigger anxiety, making us feel tired, unmotivated, or just… off. But we don’t have to let it take over! Here are a few ways to lift your spirits during this time:
🌞 Get More Light – Natural sunlight boosts serotonin levels. Try to get outside during the day, even if it’s just for a short walk. If that’s tough, a light therapy lamp can help!
🏃♂️ Move Your Body – Exercise releases feel-good hormones. Whether it’s yoga, a brisk walk, or dancing in your living room—just move!
🛌 Prioritize Rest – Good sleep is essential. Stick to a sleep routine and avoid screens before bed to improve sleep quality.
🧘 Practice Mindfulness – Journaling, meditation, or deep breathing can help you manage stress and stay present.
🤝 Stay Connected – Reach out to friends, family, or support groups. Even a quick chat can make a difference.
🍲 Nourish Yourself – Foods rich in vitamin D and omega-3s (like salmon, nuts, and eggs) can help regulate mood.
💡 Seek Help If Needed – If seasonal depression becomes overwhelming, it’s okay to ask for help. Our mental providers, coupled with therapy can be a game-changer. There's help when we need it!
You're not alone in this—many people feel the shift. But small daily habits can help bring warmth and light into this season. What’s your go-to trick for beating the seasonal blues? Let’s share and support each other! 💙✨
