Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine
Epilepsy Fellowship Program
North Shore University Hospital, NY.
Northwell Health is seeking neurologists for our ACGME accredited Epilepsy Fellowship Program starting July 2018.
During the year of training, the program provides a broad and in-depth clinical experience in the medical and surgical management of seizure disorders and in the technical, interpretive, and clinical aspects of EEG. North Shore University Hospital is a primary teaching site of the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine, and an NAEC certified level 4 epilepsy center serving nearly 7 million people in the Long Island and New York Metropolitan areas; one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse regions of the world. It is Northwell Heath’s tertiary referral center for surgical implantation and invasive monitoring, and the highest volume surgical epilepsy center in the Long Island region. The Epilepsy Division is directed by Dr. Fred Lado and includes an epilepsy monitoring unit, a long term monitoring and consultation service, an outpatient epilepsy clinic, an active epilepsy surgery program, and a research program including both clinical and basic science endeavors. Fellows spend one month on Pediatric Epilepsy at Cohen Children's Medical Center, and also have the opportunity for an elective month with faculty at Lenox Hill Hospital or at the Ambulatory Practice. Didactics include a structured lectures series, clinical and scientific weekly conferences, journal clubs, case conferences, and research meetings.
Ideal applicants should be conscientious and reliable team players with good communications skills, a solid basic foundation in neurology, and a passion for taking care of patients with epilepsy. There is no formal match for Epilepsy Fellowships. Applicants should begin inquiring approximately 12-18 months prior to the projected start date.
