Traveling this summer? Long-anticipated summer travel is not without its nutritional challenges, and adding young children to the mix multiplies those challenges. There's more to consider than packing a few extra snacks and baby wipes!

Logging long miles in the car may have your kids asking for snacks to ease the boredom. Anticipate this, and be prepared.

Pack some of these travel-friendly foods for children over the age of four, as some may pose a choking risk for younger children. If your child is at risk for choking, enjoy your food at a rest stop so you can supervise while eating.

* Low-fat yogurt
* Cheese sticks
* Cottage cheese
* Sliced bell peppers, cucumbers or other easy-to-eat veggies
* Applesauce
* Dried and fresh fruit
* Popcorn
* Trail mix
* Peanut butter sandwiches

When you need the help of a dietitian, you may have so many questions - where do you start? An experienced dietitian will be able to answer all of your questions in an easy to understand way and give you a personalized course of action.

Your dietitian will be able to clarify any confusing topics like diets, supplements, healthy versus unhealthy ingredients etc. We need to understand your goals, hesitations, activity level, and everything in between.

Here are some great questions to ask your dietitian:

What is a healthy weight range for me?
There is often a significant difference between what you want to weigh and what you should weigh. It depends on height, body type, and pre-existing conditions like eating disorders, diabetes or pregnancy.

Can you help me prep a meal plan that is ideal for my body and goals?
A well-developed meal plan keep you motivated to put your dietitian’s advice into practice, and this is also a great exercise to help your dietitian get more familiar with your lifestyle and eating habits

Type 1 diabetes is on the rise, and there are so many people that can improve their health by consulting with a Dietitian who can work with them to improve their diet.

Food can raise blood sugar levels. The type and amount of foods that are eaten will affect how high and how fast blood sugar levels will rise. It is important to make healthy eating choices about when to eat, what to eat and how much to eat.

Everyone with diabetes should have a meal plan. A dietitian can help you with a meal plan that works for you. Meals should include a variety of foods from all of the food groups so you don't have to get bored and you can love what you eat!

As a dietitian, I've heard of all of the detox diets and fads out there. From diet pills, to juice cleanses, to powders and I realize that even the word "detox" means different things to different people. Whatever images the thought of detoxing brings to your mind, I'm sure your looking for answers.

If you didn't know, your body has an innate ability to eliminate toxins it comes into contact with. The best way to support your body is having an overall healthy eating plan along with plenty of fluids that can promote regular trips to the bathroom.
