Leadership Panel on the Use of Biologics in Spine Care🩻
The AAOS (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons) is the leading organization representing and educating orthopedic surgeons across North America—and the largest of its kind in the world. Each year, surgeons from around the globe come together to share knowledge, advance techniques, and discuss the future of patient care and policy.
In 2025, I created the Biologics Instructional Course Lecture (ICL) at AAOS in collaboration with NASS, bringing together some of the foremost experts in biologics technology for the treatment of spinal disorders.
I presented on biological targets for disc regeneration, restoration, and preservation, including research focused on targeting macrophages for the treatment of disc herniations. Our panel explored the evolving role of mesenchymal stem cells, exosomes, peptides, and viral vectors in transforming cellular healing for disc injuries and degeneration.
Dr. Alan Hilibrand discussed the use of biologics to enhance spinal fusion during surgery. Dr. Jeff Donner presented on current clinical trials in disc regeneration, and Dr. John Finkenberg spoke on scaffold technologies used to support biologic agents and cellular therapies during treatment.
The audience included leaders and pioneers in the field, including Scott Boden, making for an engaging and high-level discussion on the future of spine care. 🥼
