✨ Big Questions. Big Conversations. The Big Why. ✨

Our fall Big Why Lecture Series is off to a powerful start! This past Tuesday, author, musician, and teaching artist Nate McClendon led the first session, exploring the question “Why is grief so complicated?” Through his personal story and creative insight, Nate invited us to reflect deeply on loss, love, and healing.

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined this meaningful conversation — and we can’t wait for the next three sessions as we continue to explore the big whys shaping our lives and community.

🗓️ Upcoming Topics:
➡️ Nov. 5 – “Why Can’t People Just Get a Job?” with Scott Voos & Stephanie Grynkiewicz, Be Able Manhattan
➡️ Nov. 12 – “Why Aren’t People Going to Church?” with Rev. Melanie Nord
➡️ Nov. 19 – “Why Aren’t More People Joining Geriatric Nursing?” with Meadowlark’s healthcare leaders

On Saturday, Oct. 18, our halls were transformed into galleries for the Meadowlark Art Festival, where residents showcased their incredible talents — from woodworking and pottery to painting, jewelry, and more.

Each piece told a story of imagination, skill, and heart. Thank you to all who shared their artistry and to everyone who came to celebrate creativity in our community. At Meadowlark, inspiration truly lives around every corner.

What an amazing turnout! On Friday, Oct. 8, the Meadowlark community came together in a powerful show of generosity for the annual Clothing Drive. Residents, staff, and Passport members donated more than 84 boxes and bags filled with new or gently used clothing — including shirts, shoes, coats, and pants for all ages. And an enthusiastic group of Meadowlark Ambassadors were on hand to help sort and box donations in an organized fashion.

Thanks to this overwhelming response, donations were distributed to not one, not two, but five different organizations: The Budget Shop, The Encore Shop, Be Able, Wamego Thrift Store, and Goodwill. Many of the recipients expressed their gratitude for the support, and it's clear this community effort made a meaningful difference.

Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, or helped spread the word. Your kindness truly matters!

We loved reading Ned Seaton's story about moving his in-laws to Meadowlark — and the many familiar faces and warm connections that greeted them along the way. It’s true: Meadowlark is a small town within a small town, where nobody goes it alone.

We moved my in-laws into an apartment at Meadowlark Hills last week, providing several in a long series of small-town moments. I knew damn near everybody I bumped into.

Four Meadowlark team members — and one of our wonderful residents — joined the 2025 Kansas Governor’s Conference on Aging at the K-State Alumni Center in Manhattan!

The event brought together professionals, policymakers, and community leaders to explore ways to make Kansas more age friendly and strengthen partnerships that support older adults and their care partners.

We’re proud to be part of the movement to help Kansans age with dignity, purpose, and connection.

Meadowlark employees and their families gathered at Britt's Farm on Friday for the 4th annual Bonfire Party—and what a night it was! The event was filled with delicious s’mores, hot dogs with all the fixin’s, and plenty of laughter and great conversation.

The festive atmosphere was made even more special by the presence of so many kiddos and loved ones. It was heartwarming to see everyone come together to enjoy the evening. A big thank-you to everyone who helped make the night memorable!

Celebrating 4-H Week at Meadowlark! Last Friday, Meadowlark residents gathered to celebrate 4-H Week with a special visit from the Kansas 4-H Foundation, two current 4-Hers, and one 4-H alumni! 🌟

We enjoyed light refreshments, reconnected with friends and neighbors, and learned about the amazing impact 4-H continues to make across Kansas — including updates from Rock Springs Ranch and today’s Kansas 4-H youth.

Thank you to the Kansas 4-H Foundation team for sharing your time and stories with us! 🐄🍀
