What Are Stem Cells? 🤔🧬
At Kansas Regenerative Medicine Center, one of the most common questions we hear is:
“What exactly are stem cells?”
Stem cells are the building blocks of the body—unspecialized cells with the unique ability to develop into different types of cells, such as muscle, bone, cartilage, or fat. This ability makes them valuable in regenerative medicine, where the goal is to support the body’s natural healing process.
🧪 At KRMC, stem cells are harvested only from the patient’s own fat tissue (also called adipose-derived stem cells). Why fat tissue? Because it’s a rich source of mesenchymal stem cells and can be obtained in a minimally invasive way.
The process is all done on the same day, in-clinic, using a sterile, closed-loop system—meaning the cells are never exposed to the outside environment. The goal isn’t to “cure” anything but to potentially support healing, reduce inflammation, and improve function in joints or tissues affected by injury, age, or degeneration.
🧠 The more you understand how stem cells work, the more empowered you are to make informed decisions about your health. Learn more about how KRMC uses your own cells to explore new possibilities in medicine.
