Training for a Safer, Stronger Community!

Big Lakes Developmental Center, Inc. staff completed De-Escalation Training, gaining crucial skills to handle challenging situations safely. In Mitchell County, staff from the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Wildlife & Parks - Game Wardens, Mitchell County Health Department, and MC EMS completed Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), learning how to recognize and respond to mental health crises.

We’re grateful to share that Pawnee Mental Health has received a $20,000 grant from the Dean Coughenour Trust to support our Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) in Manhattan. 💚

This funding strengthens our ability to provide life-saving behavioral health care for individuals in crisis across our 10-county service area.

This week, the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training—bringing together community leaders and local organizations to learn how to recognize and respond to mental health challenges with compassion and confidence.

Participants represented Big Lakes Developmental Center, Inc., Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan, ReNew Spa & Fitness, Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters serving Riley, Geary, Pottawatomie Counties, and Heineken Electric Co., Inc..
