November is CRPS Awareness Month: Understanding Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.
This November, we're shining a light on CRPS, a chronic condition characterized by severe, burning pain that typically affects an arm or leg following injury or surgery. What makes CRPS particularly challenging is that the pain experienced is disproportionate to the initial trauma, often persisting long after the original injury has healed.
Through greater awareness, we can foster earlier diagnoses, better treatment access, and more robust support systems for those navigating this challenging condition.

Trigger point injections are a great way to address areas of muscle within which knots, also known as trigger points, are present. These knots can be felt through the skin's surface, and when touched they may twitch involuntarily, thus irritating and trapping nearby nerves which in turn causes referred pain. Trigger point injections can be used to treat various muscle groups throughout the body such as those in the arms, legs, lower back and neck. They are often utilized to treat fibromyalgia, chronic tension headaches and Myofascial Pain Disorder that doesn't respond to other treatments. The procedure itself is quick and easy; it usually lasts no more than 5 minutes and patients remain conscious throughout. A small needle is inserted into the trigger point area followed by a local anesthetic or local anesthetic with steroid injection - both of which will help to reduce pain. Contact us today to find out if you're a candidate for trigger point injections for pain relief. https://www.hss.edu/physicians_gungor-semih.asp

Are you suffering from pain due to spinal stenosis? Spinal Stenosis occurs when the canal around your spinal cord and nerve roots narrows, which most often happens due to age-related degeneration of the spine or traumatic injury to the spine. As the canal narrows, it can press on your nerves, causing pain, numbness, and weakness. Symptoms may increase over time. But there are treatments available. Contact Dr. Semih Gungor today to learn more. https://www.hss.edu/physicians_gungor-semih.asp

Are you a candidate for epidural steroid injections? Are you experiencing neck, shoulder, or arm pain due to a pinched nerve in your cervical or lumbar spine? Common causes include herniated disks, spinal stenosis, or radiculopathy. An epidural steroid injection may provide relief. During this procedure, an anti-inflammatory medication is administered into the epidural space surrounding the spinal nerves. This acts to decrease pressure and swelling, which may be exacerbating pain. Epidural steroid injections have been shown to successfully reduce inflammation and the associated pain. If you have been suffering from chronic back, neck, or leg pain, an epidural steroid injection could help. To determine if you may benefit from this treatment option, please contact Dr. Semih Gungor to schedule a consultation. We would be pleased to evaluate your condition and discuss whether epidural injections may help provide relief for your spinal pain. https://www.hss.edu/physicians_gungor-semih.asp

Harnessing the Body's Natural Healing Power with Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a cutting-edge treatment that leverages the body's natural healing capabilities. PRP is produced by concentrating the platelets found naturally in a patient's blood. During a simple same-day procedure, physicians at Dr. Semih Gungor are able to isolate platelet-Rich Plasma from a small blood sample and inject it directly into injured or damaged tissues. If you have been struggling with chronic musculoskeletal pain, such as tendinopathy or joint inflammation, that has not responded to conventional therapies, PRP may offer a promising solution. To determine your eligibility and options for PRP, contact our office today to schedule a consultation. Our providers will evaluate your unique medical history and symptoms to develop a customized treatment plan tailored to your needs. https://www.hss.edu/physicians_gungor-semih.asp

Facet joints are small joints that connect the bones of the spine. Facet joints provide stability to the spine while also allowing it to move and be flexible. Degeneration of the facet joints may result in back pain, which is typically felt in the low back or the neck. Facet joint injections can give pain relief by injecting anesthetic to the target area. Depending on the location of the pain, several facet joint injections may be needed. To learn more, contact us today. https://www.hss.edu/physicians_gungor-semih.asp

Are you suffering from CRPS? Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a type of chronic pain that usually affects your arm or a leg. It usually follows an injury, surgery, stroke or heart attack, with the resulting pain being far more severe and of longer duration than expected. In addition to intense burning or throbbing pain in the affected area, other signs and symptoms can include sensitivity to touch or cold, swelling, changes in skin temperature or color, changes in hair and nail growth, joint stiffness/swelling/damage, muscle spasms or weakness, and decreased mobility. The cause of CRPS is not clearly understood but it's believed that early treatment is key for a better outcome. Unfortunately for some people this condition can persist for many years. If you’re experiencing CRPS, schedule an appointment with Dr. Gungor- he is an expert at treating this complex condition.
