Today is World Doula Day, and kicks off World Doula Week! I’m just feeling really honored to do this work… to stand in the sacred, the messy, and powerful moments of birth and hold space for women as they step into something brand new. This requires moms to trust me so much, and it’s an honor.

To every mama I’ve had the privilege to support, and all the mamas on my schedule for this year, thank you for letting me be part of your story. And to every doula out there quietly changing the birth experience… I see you 🫶🏼🤍

A heart shaped placenta… the second one I’ve seen this month!

Most placentas are round or oval, but every now and then, one forms with a soft indentation, creating the shape of a heart. Sometimes the placenta develops this indentation simply because it didn’t spread perfectly evenly across the uterus in early pregnancy. Small differences in implantation or blood flow can shape how it grows, and occasionally that creates the soft “dip” that gives it a heart-like appearance.

And while yes, it’s a variation of normal, it can also feel like a gentle nod from heaven. Either way, it’s breathtaking! You grew a heart… while growing a life. 🤍

I am a pen SNOB. It’s honestly a toxic trait of mine… anywho, I have my favorite pen. It’s from a church we used to go to in Mississippi and I LOVE the weight and how it writes. I carried it everywhere in my doula bag & in my car. My husband used it one day and I said “make sure you put that back, it’s my favorite pen.” So… surprise! He ordered me my own personalized Everrose Birth Co. pens in the same style pen! I love a supportive husband 👏🏽♥️

The homebirth of Lynne Renee, born March 14th @ 2:52AM. Being by my best friends side for this was something I’ll never forget. I simply don’t have the words. Lindsey did an incredible job navigating a long and hard early labor, followed by a swift active labor and delivery. She absolutely rocked it, and I’m so proud of her 🥹

This season of life should look so different for us. I should have a little girl, born just days apart, to be your little best friend. But I feel so blessed to have witnessed this. I love you so much more than you’ll ever know, little Lynne ❤️

Meet my little Doula Gang! They’re my back-ups AND friends, and I’m so glad we have one another. We had a great time at .nest.expo today.

We made lots of connections with fellow birth workers and people in the industry that can help mamas and babies. Events like this make me a better doula 🤍

What does a new client meeting look like? (Without giving all my clients info away, of course).
A welcome folder full of goodies, childbirth education, a sample birth plan, and all the details about what it’s like to have me as your doula.
We chat through intake questions, go over the contract, chat about all things birth (think: hopes, fears, knowledge of interventions and coping mechanisms, how mama best receives support, etc.)…and of course… there’s always coffee ☕ Basically, it’s the start of something really special!!

This might be a hot take, but I’ll be the FIRST person to tell you that you can fire your provider if they don’t support your vision for how you want your birth to go.

I attended the sweetest water birth this evening 🤍 mama rocked it in so many ways. Happy birthday buddy!! 💙

Hot take:
Unmedicated birth isn’t about being “built different.” It’s about being prepared different.

Women who attend a childbirth education class are more likely to have spontaneous vaginal births and less likely to use pain medication compared to those who don’t receive education. A review in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews found that childbirth training improves confidence, reduces fear, and positively influences labor outcomes.

Fear + adrenaline = stalled labor.
Education + confidence + oxytocin = progress!!

We don’t expect someone to run a marathon without training… but we expect women to give birth without preparation? We weren’t born knowing the cardinal movements, but it sure does help to know what’s happening to our bodies when we’re in the moment!

If you’re planning a natural birth, education isn’t optional. It’s strategy.
